I am part way towards my Master of Arts degree in religion with a concentration in Old Testament. The OT Gods, Yahweh and Elohim represent southern and northern Israel respectively. By the era of Jesus, all Jews were followers of Yahweh as that was the deity of southern Israel which is where northern Israel Jews moved to in 722 BCE after the Assyrian invasion. El was a canaanite god and Yahweh was the storm god of the canaanites who was worshipped more and more as time went on. The J version of Exodus describes how Yahweh became the diety of those who "escaped" or migrated from Egypt. This is who Jesus refers to. This God appears to have mellowed out as time went on because the Jewish understanding of God mellowed out and evolved over time. An example of this would be when the Jews were prisoners in Babylon 587BCE-539BCE. While in Babylon, Jewish theology evolved from a kingdom religion into an apocalyptic religion where they were waiting for a coming messiah. In fact, they would've been in Babylon during the lifetime of Zarathustra who founded Zoroastrianism. Zarathustra spoke of 3 virgin births to come that would be messiah figures. While the Jews didn't convert, they were likely influenced. Upon return from Babylon, Judaism was a religion of prophecy and apocalypse. So, my answer to who I'd vote for would be answering a charade. The OT and NT deity are both the same and evolved over a period of roughly 1,000 years. By OT God, do you mean El or Yahweh? Do you mean Genesis 2 style or Psalm style?

Socially conservative states are the darkest blue and socially liberal states are the darkest red.
