Win or lose, should Maes poll below 10%, Obama's odds in Colorado surely improve quite a bit for 2012...

Seems like pbrowers "incumbent approval+5" rule isnīt too bad ... Wink

Bennet with 40% approval and 47% support against Buck.

Of course only matters if Obama's opponent is a joke candidate like Sarah Palin.

No, I don't mean it in a hackish way. Tongue

I mean, because of CO law would make the GOP a "Minor party" for 2012 if Maes falls below 10%.

Although, yes, the whole "incumbent +5" thing is stupid since approval rating isn't an electoral match-up...

Maes can't go any lower. So unless Hickenlooper starts losing support, I don't see how Tancredo can win this thing.

But perhaps his surge is a good thing for Bennett as it can energize Hispanics who will go to vote against their arch-nemesis and give him the necessary boost to defeat Buck.

At the very least, this turn of events seems to validate my prediction that Americans are ready and willing to fully embrace fascism. If someone like Tom Tancredo, who is much more vocal about his views than Palin and the like, can be close to victory in a moderate state like Colorado, imagine what the political landscape will look like two years from now, after two more years of an awful economy and 9% or more unemployment.

Intolerable, blind nationalism is the only thing that gives people hope in times of despair.

Here in the UK, Maes would be on the verge of losing his deposit.

Here in the UK, Tandredo would be a member of the BNP. As would Sarah Palin.

Yeah, because anti-hispanic demagoguery is what Colorado/America needs right now. Roll Eyes

BTW how prevalent is early voting in Colorado? It seems like Maes's support falls with every passing day, so the more people who vote late the better it is for Tancredo.

My god, what arrogance!

Did it ever occur to any of you that Tancredo has made an (successful) effort to moderate his rhetoric during the campaign? Did it occur to you that most people don't know anything about also-rans?

Calling Tancredo fascist is blatantly excessive hyperbole

It's hyberbole to suggest that seriously fascist policies will result from a Tancredo administration.....but ideologically, I truly believe he's a pretty clear fascist.

Only one aspect of fascism, Vepres. Having fascist views doesn't necessarily means you want to establish a dictatorship.

Oh? That is at its core, no? Being nationalistic and nativist =/= fascism.

Seriously, you wouldn't defend me if I said that Barbra Boxer was a communist.

Besides, people have to get it out of their heads that fascism is extreme rightism. It, in fact, does not fall well on a traditional 1 dimensional or 2 dimensional political spectrum.

Actually it does--medium-left economic values and far-right social values sums it up reasonably well.  It doesn't fit the US political spectrum well however.

Actually, it looks like Hispanics really like Tancredo, especially in the PPP polls. He's running close to even with them compared to his statewide totals in the last 3 PPP polls I think.

Now this might be due to small sample size, but I don't think it's that unusual.  Colorado Hispanics outside of Denver are remarkably swing-y voters, so it wouldn't be unusual for them to back a Republican.  Though I do admit the idea that Tancredo is leading some sort of Hispanic Republican resurgence is quite Ironic.

It's nice to know he's moderate himself from bombing Mecca and rounding up brown people to deport. What a guy!

It's absolutely terrifying to realize that Colorado is within 5 or so points of electing a Nazi governor.

Extreme nationalism+violence?
I do see some sort of a fascist-like candidate there. But obviously, people are "angry!!1111!" because of Obama so whatever,it's not like they care really about who they elect as long as it's not a D.
