Giuliani: 26
Huckabee: 14
McCain: 13
Thompson: 13

Funny how last cycle, Giuliani maintained his national lead for an entire year, never dropping below 25%, yet lost spectacularly.

Check out RCP's chart of last cycle's elections: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/us/republican_presidential_nomination-1452.html

Well, that makes sense. Everybody thought the election would be between Hillary and Rudy.

Not everybody thought that.  Plenty of people predicted that Giuliani would lose the nomination because he was behind in the early primary states.  The CW by mid-December here was that it was a Romney-Huckabee race:

Looks like Giuliani's 12-point lead nationally in RCP average became a 3-point one a week later.  Seems to me his losing New Hampshire just rubber-stamped a rejection that was already growing nationally over the course of December.   Gingrich has similar issues as Giuliani as far as his personal life and a whiff of corruption, and if he's going to follow a similar trajectory we'll probably see warning signs in the next week or two.

Agreed, although I Gingrich does not have the 'moderate' label Giuliani had that is so poisonous in the Republican party.
