Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.  Tonight I am proud to announce my candidacy for Northeast Senator!

Ever since I was sworn into the Northeast Assembly back in August, I have been using the privilege to learn about our government, gain experience, write and pass numerous bills, and now, lead our legislative branch as Speaker.  Have I made a few mistakes along the way?  Indeed, I have.  But I have used these errors to learn and become a better representative.

To demonstrate my commitment to this region and show my constituents where I stand, I have kept a list of all legislation we've considered this region as well as keep an organized, and routinely updated list of bills that I have both written and supported over my career.  I wish to bring this same type of openness and organization to the Atlasian Senate.

Now, in Atlasia, we have many issues facing our country.  It is absolutely necessary to have a government that's dedicated to protecting your rights, ensuring your liberty, promoting the general welfare, and stepping into matters when most necessary.  To do this, we must keep a temporary safety net available for the poor, give Atlasians the incentive to achieve success, and pass the right regulations that help our businesses- not stifle job creation.

Here's where I stand on some important issues facing our country:

Trade
I generally support free trade with other nations, as long as those nations share our interests and promote the rights of their workers.

Taxes
I am a firm supporter of progressive taxation because they give our job creators the incentive to spend and invest in jobs, whereas flat/regressive taxes do not.  However, I understand that it is important to keep rates at a reasonable level so that people are not overburdened by federal and regional taxes.  Our corporate taxes must be without loopholes and low enough so that Atlasia can be the number one country for starting a business.

Healthcare
I support the Atlasian National Healthcare Act and will support positive efforts to reduce expenses.

Environment
It should be a priority of our government to promote environmentally-friendly energy sources and stand up for responsible environment policy.  One of my major environmental issues is mountaintop removal; as Northeast representative, I authored the legislation that banned this practice from our region so that Appalachian residents may prosper with cleaner air, healthier lives, and so that recreational activities (such as hunting and fishing) may be undisturbed.  If elected to the Senate, I would push for similar legislation on a federal level.

Abortion
Abortion has always been, to me, a deeply emotional issue affecting doctors, women, and families.  It is my view that women's health and privacy must always be protected, and that is why I am pro-choice.  As Senator, I will oppose all legislation that infringe upon this right and work to ensure that reproductive freedom is honored by this government.

Marriage Equality
I believe that marriage rights ought to be ensured to people, regardless of gender or sexual preferences.  I will stand up for LGBT interests so that all Atlasians may enjoy equal rights.

War & Conscription
I believe that war should be an absolute, last resort for any government.  While I believe the world community should work to promote liberty for all people, it is important that we do not achieve this by policing the world in any way.  I will only support military action if foreign enemies pose a clear, legitimate threat to Atlasia and the world itself.  I maintain that having a strong defense is important to protect the citizens.

However, under no circumstance will I support coercing people into joining our military, and I will support all efforts to withhold this option from our government.  Right now, I have been speaking strongly for a bill currently pending in the Senate that would do this.

Marijuana
I support the recreational use of marijuana in Atlasia.

---
In this campaign, I hope to earn your vote even if we don't see eye-to-eye on every issue or belong in the same political party.  If I am given the opportunity by you to serve, I will work with senators of all parties and ideologies where we can find common ground.

If you would like to know more about where I stand on other issues, you can find out by either asking me or checking out my legislative record.  On that note, I'd like to wish my opponent, Simfan34, a clean and honest race. Smiley

Campaign Announcement

Brief announcement.  If I am elected to the Atlasia Senate next Friday, one of my first orders of business will be to propose a Constitutional amendment that will read the following:

"The Senate shall make no law that applies to the citizens of Atlasia that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Regional officers; and, the Senate shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Regional officers that does not apply equally to the citizens of Atlasia."

The ongoing conscription debate (and Senator 20RP12's proposal to require Senators to serve in the military during draft time) helped inspire this proposal.  This amendment is necessary to ensure that our politicians and their families are not be entitled to any special privileges that are not enjoyed by their constituents, whether it be exemption from conscription (if such a thing is ever proposed) or any other law that self-serves government officials.

Let's keep government accountable!  Vote for Scott next Friday!

Only a couple days away from the election, folks.  Soon, you will have the chance to elect a new bunch of leaders to the Atlasian government that will innovate our country for a better tomorrow!

As Speaker, I have demonstrated my ability to both lead and represent my constituents in the region.  And while I believe the current Assembly and administration have passed great pieces of legislation, it isn't perfect, but I am confident that you will elect the right people who can bring the necessary reforms.  After the elections, I want the discussion on game reform to continue at both a regional and federal level.  We must listen to all ideas that our constituents and politicians have in mind, and we encourage your input!

Most of you have a very clear idea of where I stand on the issues.  While I stand on a strong set of principles, I also believe that we must do what is necessary and practical to keep our nation growing strong.  We need to put forward the right policies that give all hardworking Atlasians, both white collar and blue collar, the incentives to be successful.  We need to empower local communities to develop their cities by investing in infrastructure.  In rural communities, we must prevent the continuous loss of jobs that we have seen for decades by responding to the needs of rural business owners and farmers.  Access to health services and electricity must be guaranteed to all Atlasians, no matter how remote their areas are.

Our tax code must be one that's simple, fair, and doesn't suppress job growth.  I support the progressiveness of our current tax code, but our Corporate Tax should always be competitive with other nations.  If our government maintains an agenda that makes us competitive and responds to the needs of workers at the same time, I know that Atlasia can become the number one place for anyone to either start or work in a business.  Trade laws have to be enforced, and we must not trade with countries that do not share our values on human and workers' rights.

We have some very competitive elections ahead, especially for the Senate seat and the presidency.  But I am confident that if you knock on doors, make phone calls, and do whatever else you can to get out the vote, we can win.  This Friday, vote for three loyal Northeasterners whose leadership has been tested; vote Napoleon for Northeast Governor, Scott for Northeast Senator, and Polnut for President of Atlasia!!!

Election Day is just hours away!  In my final press release before the election, I would like to remind the voters what this election is all about: character, activism, reform, and leadership.  When you cast your vote tomorrow, ask yourself who you believe can best represent the Northeast Region in the Senate, even if that candidate isn't the person you agree with all the time.

I am pleased to announce that we currently lead in two polls taken over the course of the campaign.  While the outlook of the election looks good, we can only win this race if you turn out to the polls!

Get out the vote, and keep up the fight!

It appears that this election will be closer than expected.  However, the polls are still open and we are not even finished with the first day of voting.  I thank those who have already voted for me, and I am hopeful that supporters who have not yet voted will have the opportunity to.

To summarize what I have been campaigning on this election, I am promising to bring activity, honesty, experience, and progressive values to the Atlasian Senate!!  I have a record that I am proudly running on which is organized and clear so that all my stances on the issues are out there for the voters to consider when deciding who they'll vote for.  I will be both a pragmatic and principled legislator who will always put the interests of the region- both social, economic, and foreign- first and foremost.

There is still plenty of time to head out to the polls.  I appreciate every bit of support I get, and I assure those who have placed their confidence in me that they will not be disappointed. Smiley

Get Out The Vote!

With two full days into the election, this campaign now has a clear lead in the vote tally so far.  If this trend continues and the numbers hold steady, we will enjoy an outstanding victory tomorrow night!  Once again, I am extremely grateful for the support I have gotten so far.  Regardless of the outcome of the election, I will be proud to end this campaign on a high note tomorrow.

Keep up the good work, and keep looking forward!

It appears we've won!  The outgoing Senator has informed me that I must be confirmed by the next Assembly before taking office.  I hope that my confirmation will be successful and happen soon.

I will deliver a full speech after the results have been certified.

(Applause & cheers)
Thank you all.  Thank you very much.

I would like to thank all of you for your support and hard work.  I am extremely humbled to be up here tonight accepting the privilege to represent this great region in the Atlasian Senate.  None of this would have been possible without my supporters, my campaign team, and my family.  Thank you.
And a special thank you to outgoing Senator Napoleon, for his long months of service to this region and this country.  I am confident that he will continue his hard work and dedication as the new governor of this great region. (applause)  And I would also like to commend Representative Wormyguy and CJO Simfan34 for a hard-fought, honest, and positive campaign.  I'd like to congratulate them for what they both achieved during this campaign. (applause)

The privilege that has been bestowed upon me tonight is not to be taken for granted.  It is a great honor to be chosen to serve in the Senate, and I am promising you tonight that I will hold this office with dignity and competence.  And to those of you whose support I did not get this election, I promise to represent you and draft policy that benefits everyone.  And I will work with members of both sides of the aisle on issues where we can reach common ground on, peacefully. (applause)

And this brings me to a very important issue we have in this game: there is far too much bickering, too many rivalries, and too little cooperation.  I want to be able to work with those who I agree with and disagree with, ideological differences aside.  This game was not put in place for the sake of dividing people, and I will not encourage this practice as a member of the Atlasian Senate. (applause)

Instead of partisanship or ideological purity, I promise to push for results.  What we need right now is a smarter and fairer government that responds to the needs of the people while simultaneously protecting our civil liberties.  I will support efforts to help the middle-class and I will fight for the dignity of the Atlasian worker.  We can do these things by keeping a tax code in place that asks the rich to pay their fair share so that the middle-class can grow, and preventing excessive regulations that hurt our small businesses.

I will fight to protect a woman's right to choose as Senator, and be a voice for the rights of the LGBT community.   I will also pursue legislation that keeps our environment safe for all people and preserves our rural communities.  And, most importantly, I will continue the fight to stop conscription from ever seeing the light of the day in this country. (applause)

We have a long four months ahead of ourselves.  Even with the election season coming to an end, the fight for freedom and opportunity lives on.  And the battle starts right here at home.  Write your legislator, your governor, your Senators, and your president.  Have conversations with your friends and family.  Talk about what's important.  Ask how we all can work together- private and public sector- to improve the lives of Atlasians everywhere and how the game can be reformed best.

Thank you.  I love you.  Dave bless you, and Dave bless the Republic of Atlasia!!!

(Applause & cheers.  As Scott exits the podium, This Town starts playing in the background)

Harbor Point in Stamford, Connecticut

My friends, I am pleased to report that during the past two months in the Senate, I have seen some excellent legislation crafted, debated, and passed.  We appointed a great, hardworking cabinet with some of Atlasia's finest citizens.  We passed landmark legislation that holds banks accountable and puts Atlasian homeowners first.  We passed legislation that created the first ever national broadcaster that embraces the great arts and culture of our country.  The list goes on, really- and yet we still have so much work to do.  And that, my friends, is why I am running for reelection as your Northeast Regional Senator!!!

Currently, the Senate is debating excellent ways to make elections more fun, reducing costs on our healthcare program without gutting the fundamental aspects of it, and providing support for women in Afghanistan.  What have I been doing during all this, you may ask?  I have been taking the necessary steps to improve this legislation and putting the interests of the Northeast first.

As you all know, recently I've been drafting legislation that tackles our education system in this country.  While progress on this particular legislation has been slow, I wish to continue pursuing this important goal.  But I cannot do this without YOUR support and your great ideas.  Never has it been more important for us to help our children develop and learn the skills they need to compete in a global economy.  And if we build our future from the ground up, I assure you that we will continue to be the economic superpower that so many nations aspire to be.

The next two months will not be a cakewalk.  While I am currently running unopposed, I will need your support every step of the way.  We must have education reform, we must strengthen our middle-class, we must work to keep our environment safe.  And I believe I will the only candidate that will continue to put you first.

Thank you.  May Dave bless the Northeast Region, and may Dave bless the Republic of Atlasia!!!

TV Commercial - Working For You

Peaceful music plays in the background; a montage plays featuring short clips of Scott talking to farmers, talking to elementary school students, walking on mountaintops, biking through a street, and working in his Senate office

MALE VOICEOVER: Senator Scott has always worked for you.  He was elected on a platform of activity and reform, and he lives to that platform today.  He's improving health care, fixing our education, protecting our mountains, and getting our Wiki to date.

Video cuts to Scott walking beside train tracks.

SCOTT: Today our country faces many problems- lack of activity, partisanship, programs in need of sustainability.  But I've been working to suppress these problems.  I have kept my promise to you to be an active Senator, never missing a vote and sponsoring stray bills.  And I've consistently stood my ground and fought for reasonable policies to move our country forward.  I've spent hours helping rebuild the Wiki and rallying for others to join me, because I believe that an active and up-to-date is essential for maintaining an open government.  I approve this message because I believe we can continue this progress for both the region, and the country that we love.

Scott smiles.  Camera view moves above Scott's head.  Campaign logo appears.  The word 'Reelect' is quickly drawn into the logo.

CAMPAIGN STATEMENT

My friends, today finally marks the end of a long and rough campaign.  Although this reelection campaign may not have been as feisty as the last election for this seat was, we have witnessed a very bitter and divisive presidential election battle throughout our country.

Before I speak about my campaign and my vision for the road ahead, I would like to reassert my support for several Senate candidates running this cycle- in particular, Sbane in the Pacific, Redalgo in the Midwest, and Ben in the Mideast.  These are the names of three truly progressive Atlasians who will advance good reforms and serve as true assets for our movement.  Last but not least, I reinforce my support of Napoleon for President of Atlasia.  I know that he and soon-to-be Vice President Kalwejt both have what is necessary to stimulate game activity and ensure that we stay on a road to prosperity.

Now, during my four months in the Senate, I have sponsored several pieces of legislation that have been supported by senators from both sides of the aisle, and I am running for reelection so that I may continue this work in a second term.  Most recently, I introduced two pieces of legislation that will be debated in the upcoming months; one is a proposal that is based off of a bill written by real-life Congressman Bobby Schilling (R-IL).  The 'Saving Over Spending Act of 2012,' as it is named, will encourage federal departments to spend less and to spend wisely.  At the end of the fiscal year, 50% of the money saved will automatically be used to pay off the deficit and the remainder will stay in the department to be spent at its discretion.  This bill is, I believe, a great way to reduce the deficit without hurting crucial programs and I hope to see it pass with bipartisan support.

The second piece of legislation I have introduced, the 'Care For Homeless Pets Act of 2012,' will assist families whose unfortunate financial circumstances have forced them to disown their pets by subsidizing pet shelters in economically depressed areas of the country.  Under the bill, families will have the opportunity to hand temporary ownership of their pets to shelters for three months, and have the option of either reclaiming them or displaying them for adoption over the three-month period.  This project will save the lives of thousands of animals that are victims of abandonment, and starting costs for it will be low.

As we move to a new chapter in Atlasia, I hope that citizens of all parties and ideologies will be able to reconcile and mutually welcome in our new president, whoever that might be.  It's no question that the campaign over the past couple months has been extremely negative in certain aspects, with people constantly pointing fingers at one another and engaging in needless fights which are detrimental to the spirit of the game.  I hope that the hostile environment simmers down as this election season finally concludes so that we may work together to build a free and prosperous country for all Atlasians.

Thank you, and remember to vote tomorrow.

Senator Scott
