Seems good on issues of poverty, status quo on everything else. Given his outsider status, perhaps he could be a reformer. Voted neutral, since he's been pope for about an hour.

He's an old Catholic man, so obviously I disagree with him on a lot of issues, but he seems intelligent with more emphasis on education and anti-poverty initiatives than many others.

He also has that cute old grandpa Pope feel that made John Paul II so charming, which Benedict lacked.

This thread's title is a disgrace. Tender, how dare you desecrate the noble Latin tongue with this vile Teutonic spelling?

He wasn't even mentioned on the "Super Sistine" bracket my religion teacher handed out. So that's a count against him. He's not an American pope, nor is he an African pope, so that's two. And you can tell the Romans were pulling their usual stuff when they had a South American Pope whose parents were Italian. However, we'll see. This quote from wikipedia looks interesting:

However, his apparent abrasiveness on the issue of homosexuality (and of what follows) and the way he states it won't translate well, methinks, in the modern world. My default is "like".

I'm disappointed and this is nothing against Francis. I really think a younger, more energetic person was needed.

Before younger Popes can be elected, an elder Pope must take it upon himself to appoint younger Cardinals.

I wouldn't have liked any of them. I don't particularly like him because of his connections with the junta.

Neutral in a pessimistic sort of way. There's nothing positive to be gained anyway, so the minute historically aesthetic positives are fine for what they are.

Creepy old man in a cape. If he wants to command respect, he needs to update the wardrobe. It's hard to take somebody in a pointy hat seriously.

I suppose shades and a snapback would really command some awe and admiration from the younger crowds.

Of which there is little to no proof. Easy for you to criticize when you haven't been in an analogous situation.
