Brown is pretty unpopular and hasn't delivered on his 2010 promises to reform the state government. He'll probably win for lack of a decent challenger, but I suspect it will be closer than you think.
Are you sure you live in California?

I have no idea what he's smoking either, but I think he's trolling.

I do live in a conservative stronghold of the state, so that may bias my perception. Brown is as popular as an un-lanced boil in Kern County.

LOL, you realize that's around R+20 compared to the California average?

And as we all know, as goes Bakersfield, so goes the state.

Brown wins reelection in a landslide 61-36 and the Dems keep the CA governorship for a long time because of the crappy state of the GOP.

As expected, 75-year old Democratic California Governor Jerry Brown is running for re-election for his fourth term in his lifetime.

Although he's really angered liberals who hold a super-majority in the state legislature (especially from vetoing a # of gun control bills), he's been acclaimed for taking CA out of an economic recession and reviving the school and prison systems. Going into his re-election, he holds a 58% approval rating, $17 million in the bank, and huge leads over his two Republican opponents, Neel Kashkari and the dysfunctional Tea Party-backed candidate Tim Donnelly who reportedly called Brown a "socialist."

And just by looking at the Wikipedia page, it seems Kamala Harris won't run and Villaraigosa and Newsom are still under "potential", but said they wouldn't run if Brown runs. I'm shocked Kevin McCarthy is on the potential list to for the GOP. There's no way he gives up his House seat and leadership position to run for a seat that he stands zero chance at.

Kamala Harris will run in 2018, for Governor. I'm sure.

But, either way, it's not to be unexpected he would run.

Isn't the CA State Attorney General the second most powerful statewide office behind the governor?

Lieutenant Governor's powers and influence are very limited in California.

Yeah, for the Lieutenant Governor, it's basically get up, read the paper, see if the governor is dead.

They need to make the CA Lieutenant Governor more powerful like their counterparts in Texas, Alabama and Georgia.

CA Lieutenant Governor should also appoint committee chairmanships and setting the legislative agenda

Or maybe abolish the LG office altogether and have the Secretary of State next in line (see AZ)

In all honesty, that would be alot better. No point in having a office that does nothing.

When is the last time a Governor died in California, anyway?

What about Abel Maldonado?  He's already in the race, and could easily give Governor Moonbeam a run for his money.

California is in an economic upswing. It's hard to unseat an incumbent given that.
