Caucus Rules state that Convention may open from 3 June, and this or 4 June will be the likely opening date for our Convention.

http://www.progressnj.com/atlaswiki/index.php/Progressive_Caucus

Above is a copy of the present rules of the Caucus, its platform and its membership. Only those who are members at the beginning of the Convention will be able to vote in endorsement and other votes. Anybody wishing to join may do so by simple declaration in this thread.

As ever, we are required to elect the Leadership if there is a challenge. I will be running to maintain my Chairmanship of the Caucus (hence why I did not run for the ILP Chairmanship); I am unsure of MAS's intentions. If there are any other candidates for the Leadership, could they please state in this thread before the Convention begins, as this will be our first piece of business.

Motions for changes to the platform and the Caucus rules will then be considered; Post and debate on these here please.

At the beginning of the Convention, I will also be attempting to constitute the Board of the Party - and hopefully will achieve it this time. The present division of members is as follows:

FLP - 9 members - 2 board seats
ILP - 6 members - 1 board seat
CUP - 3 members - 1 board seat - I had gotten Alcon to agree to take this seat previously; Hopefully this still applies.
Free - 3 members - 1 board seat
Ind - 3 members (Akno, Josh, IrishDem) - 1 board seat if they affiliate. I know that Akno previously had obtained the agreement of Josh for affiliation, so I'll see this as continuing to be binding unless told otherwise.

Note that the composition of the Board will be decided by the numbers in the Caucus at the beginning of the Convention and thus the above numbers are subject to change. Note also that the Chair and VC hold seats on the Board ex officio.

Finally, though I've never really cared about things like this, many of you seem to: Where do you want to hold the Convention? Suggestions in this thread please.

I suppose I have to get IrishDem out here to support me for the independent seat?

If we're picking sites,

Charlotte, NC, let's go down south and make our voices heard.

San Fransisco or Las Vegas both are progressive cities.

Selma, Alabama sounds even better.  consider the symbolism, as well as the history of holding our convention in the heart of Dixie, in the same town where Americans throughout the entire nation saw a peaceful civil rights march viciously attacked by Alabama law-enforcement officers, and gave President Lyndon Johnson the momentum he needed to pass the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts in 1964 and 1965 respectively.

So far we have:

Charlotte, NC
San Francisco, CA
Las Vegas, NV
Philadelphia, PA
Seattle, WA
Portland, OR
Selma, AL

I will simply point out that I think we went to Seattle last  time or the time before that and I'd like to travel around a little. I'll add to the list: Billings, MT

Welcome to both Opebo and Ebowed.

Don't worry if you disagree on one or even a few issues - nothing's considered binding here.

Welcome LiberalPA!

With the Northeast Governor race happening before the Convention opens, we will be holding an endrosement vote for this race, beginning Thursday 26 May and lasting until the end of Sunday 29 May.

One of the candidates is our esteemed Vice Chairman, MAS117, pitted against two ACAers. I wholeheartedly recommend him to the Caucus for our endorsement.

I would like to suggest we combine the "Progressive" and "Southern" arguments and hold our convention in Tallahassee FL.

Are we even endorsing a candidate in the southeast race?

I am still a member of this caucus, even though some people may find that funny.  Smiley
