Eh, he could hope that the runner up from last time gets it next time. With the modern primary system, it happened in 1980, 1988, 1996, 2008, and 2012. Only exceptions are 2000 and 2016.

Credit to Cruz, he finished in 2nd place to a very formidable political opponent.

Cruz ignored Trump too much for my liking, but he did run a solid campaign.

Trump is just the man for 2016.
