Just curious.  Somehow, he DOES seem like a consensus candidate.

Favorable as he seems like has a strong, stable resume for job.

Besides, he's one of the best looking SCJs we may ever have. Tongue

So far, highly favorable. That may, of course, change as he starts writing opinions. Wink

He's ok in my book, and if I say he's ok, the god damn U.S. Senate will say he's ok too.

Seems like a nice guy, but I'm betting that he'll be a wolf in sheep's clothing. Bush wouldn't have nominated him if he wasn't a Clarence Thomas-type.

Generally favorable, if only because there are no skeleton decisions in his closet.  He could be a homo-hating maniac, and we wouldn't know Smiley

Unfavorable of course.  I'm disgusted at you 'democrats' who could favour this type.  You should switch to the Religious Party.

Unfavorable. He favors Bush vs. Gore, and so should clearly not be on the court. We don't need more asshole activist conservative judges.

Actually, as an attorney, he represented gay clients in a discrimination case.   Pro bono.

So did seven of the nine justices.  Five of the seven agreed on a remedy.

Only 5 voted that the recount was over.

That was the remedy to which I referred.  Now, if a statewide recount had been ordered earlier, and if it had been sought earlier, I would disagree with the Court's decision.  However Bryer, even his his dissent, noted that the "safe harbor" date could not be met.  The alternative would have been the completely constitutional action of letting the FL Legislature appointing the Electors; would you find that more palatable?

We also did have a several month recount, which found that, using the standard the FL SC and the local election board's, used, Bush had more votes.  Further, we saw the supposed backlash against the result, directed against Jeb Bush in 2002 and George W. Bush in 2004, be completely nonexistent.

One other factor is that Roberts has been on both sides, as it were, defending government action while a Justice Department lawyer and opposing the government in private practice.  That gives him perspective.

well he has defended gays and porn before. I say unfavorable, but he's far better than any freedom-hating prude type Bush would've likely nominated.

You all realize that once he gets appointed, what we think of hjim is going to have no bearing on what he does.  :-)

unsure.  Don't know how strictly he will adhere to the Constitution, or if he'll be an activist.  Also don't know if he'll rule based upon Constitutionality or his own agenda.  Time will tell, and it looks very likely that he'll be nominated.

Favorable, for now.

But I'm still expecting him to transmogrify to David Souter any day after confirmation.
