Some people here seem to think this.

Do you believe that all communists in the world are evil, and are bad and awful people? That there is no communist in the world with humanitarian concern or who is a nice person?

Let's put it like this - do you think all fascists are evil people?

yes, but the two ideologies are not comparable.

Lots of communists are just poor people who want a better way.

All communists are evil, because communism is a belief the embraces coercion as a means to further one's ordinary interests.

They couldn't be any more comparable.

Lots of communists are just poor people who want a better way.

So was the bulk of the NSDAP's support base.

To clarify, are you talking about communism or socialism?  Many people these days get the two confused with each other, when they are quite different.

This is of course an important philosophical question.  The philosophy of Communism itself is of course evil, but what about those who subscribe to it?  I believe there is a level of degrees here.  A Marxist professor is not on the same level morally as Stalin himself.  However, all must bear some moral stigma from believing in such a vile system.

What about a poor Central American peasant whose village is constantly threatened by right wing death squads and the corrupt government, and the communists have defended the village and much of his family? Is he then wrong for joining the communists?

Yes.  Trading one evil for another does not make you any better.

The differences are very very thin. These days the term "socialism" is just being used as the polite word for communist. Socialists in this nation are a very very real threat to our future freedoms.

Yes.  It is fundamentally evil to abolish private property and individual rights.

Communism itself is evil, but I think those you believe in it are not always evil, sometimes they're just misinformed Tongue

I'll be honest - communism in my view is an evil ideology for reasons that have already been stated. However, do I view everyone who preaches it as evil? No, of course not, because their reasons for believing in communism can be many - they believe that communism is a benevolent system, for they don't see why it is evil. Communism has a nice, shiny wrapper but when you actually know what's contained within you would want nothing to do with it.

I find the question somewhat silly, given that there is no universal objective definition of "good" or "evil."

However, to respond from my own personal perspective, I do not consider communists to be evil. Undoubtedly, communism is detrimental and injurious to one of the most fundamental and prized of our rights, the right to property. However, at the same time, I recognize that there is another important right that we cannot neglect, the freedom of conscience. I would assert that, therefore, one who believes in communism is not necessarily "evil." From my viewpoint, "evil" lies not in one's beliefs, but in one's actions and attempted actions. Thus, I would consider Stalin "evil," but not someone who merely believes in Marxism but does nothing to support or further it.

I find it more of an issue "are they mentally handicapped?" than "are they evil?"

Private property is an individual right.
