Could someone please tell me why McCain is going to Iowa again next week. Davenport this time. Whatever adviser is making these decisions is seriously committing political malpractice.

Perhaps McCain's internal polling is telling him something we don't know. It doesn't make much sense.

maybe it's telling them that ethanol will suddenly stop being an issue sometime before November 4?

Maybe he's trying to establish an organization he can use for the 2012 caucuses?

He must be asking for Huckabee, Romney, and Thompson to be retroactively disqualified from the caucuses, so he can be declared the winner, and get a bigger momentum boost going into the fall campaign.

Perhaps think of it this way: He's trying to make the stake look more competitive than it is to give him a boost. Secondly, Iowa's a bit different demographically than the other swing states, so depending on McCain's message, he might guess that perhaps "Obama isn't American enough" might play better in the heartland than in Denver suburbs.. for example. So perhaps he's trying to give himself another out in case he can gain traction in certain demographics.
But with ethanol subsidies and Obama's insane field oganization (built up over the course of two years to mine every vote out of every high school, neighborhood, and so on), and McCain's lack of organizational depth in the state... it's a puzzler. Why he can't just run a few cheap ads to look competitive is beyond me...campaign time is a serious indicator usually at this point in the race.

Maybe he thinks it will play in Wisconsin, too? He already said he would hate to live in Milwaukee, so maybe he's looking to move to Iowa sometime down the road? Or at least own two or three houses there.

Okay we have:
1. McCain going to Iowa, a state that he
should
lose badly.
2. Obama in PA, a state which the polling shows that he's winning handily.
3. Obama spending, but not reporting his fund raising.
Somebody want to tell me what the hell is going on?

I highly doubt it. McCain will be 76 in 2012 and by that point, one of the biggest electoral embarrassments to the GOP in recent history. He would have to be medically insane to consider another run. Which, now that I think about it, could be a possibility.

Hahaha McCain/Palin are going to Iowa AGAIN.
http://www.qctimes.com/articles/2008/10/22/news/nation_world/doc48ff437bbc732189045205.txt?sPos=3
So let me get this straight. Instead of trying to hold Virginia, Colorado, Nevada, North Carolina, Missouri, Indiana, or any of those, well, close battleground states they're going to Iowa again?

It's simple really: McCain is King Lear, wandering the countryside shouting gibberish and lamenting the horrible decisions he made that got him into this position. Palin is Tamora from Titus Andronicus, determined to do whatever it takes to bring her enemies down with her.

Again?! The bastard never showed up here prior to January 3. Back when it counted. I couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting Hillary Clinton, Mitt Romney, John Edwards, John Obama, Ron Paul, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and every other candidate for President. But McCain was apparently too busy to come to Iowa and meet each and every resident of the state, the way a proper candidate should. F
http://
uck him, And fu
ck the party that nominated him. Let him go back to New Hampshire where they love him. And call him maverick. Or stud. Or goat. Or camel. Or whatever the ungulate metaphor of the week is.
Ah, Davenport is in the "quad cities" anyway. It's a two-state media market, including Davenport & Bettendorf, IA, and Moline & Rock Island, IL. It's not as though he's deep in the "land between the rivers." That'd be Desmoines or Ottumwa. Going to Davenport might be like going to Philly if you want to reach southern New Jerseyans. So the question becomes, "why is he campaigning in Western Illinois?"

Lest the humor go undetected, that was a shot at Iowa--or at Iowans--mostly. It occurred to me that it might have been misinterpreted as a cheap shot at McCain. But, yeah, it was also a shot at the two major political parties. And, of course, at McCain. But McCain's too easy, and I never miss an opportunity to impugn him. Mostly I was making fun of Iowans. And, perhaps, of caucuses, of the primary system (that produce the likes of Al Gore, George Bush, and John McCain), of the parties that control the system, and of the people that allow it all to happen.

Why Obama is in PA and why McCain was in IA are two of the mysteries that I hope will be solved on election day.
The answer, to either, might be, "Because he's ' nuts."
