I think I challenge HW's decision to bring forward a vote on cloture and ask that it be struck as invalid because SPC had an amendment that should have been brought to a vote

I believe a call to vote on cloture supersedes other votes and normal debate. I may be wrong though.

Oh yeah. Thank you, DWTL. Smiley

Dwtl why are you bringing this up as opposing "my decision"?  You were the one who originally called for cloture.

Also I believe Bacon King is right, cloture supercedes.  However since its been over 48 hours the cloture fails anyways since we did'nt get the 7 votes necessary.  SPC, please remind me of the amendment's material by the way.

I object. Two thirds of those voting must favor cloture for it to pass. The vote was 6-3. Cloture was successful.

It says two-thirds of the Senate, not two-thirds of those Senators voting. That implies that it needs 7 votes.

Besides, that's how it works in real life. You seriously wouldn't think a cloture motion could be considered to have passed if the U.S. Senate voted in favor of it 50-25.

I apologize sincerely, I mixed up the rules regarding motions to table and cloture.

Here is the text regarding motions to table:

Even the 48 hour limit didn't apply to cloture. Sorry about that.

On the motions to table, it does only apply to senators voting.

Mistakes happen. I'm just glad it was caught before another final vote was incorrectly called.

Nay.

(You know, I think you can ignore things like DWTL's amendment as frivolous. Check the senate rules first though)
