About this Poll

The West Virginia Chamber of Commerce commissioned R.L Repass & Partners to conduct the poll.

A new poll shows acting Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin leads the race in a special election for governor, but his primary challenger is eyeing a substantial bloc of undecided voters.

The poll shows Tomblin ahead of Maloney with 40 percent support to Maloney’s 24 percent. About 31 percent of poll respondents said they were undecided.

Independent candidate Mary Ingles and Bob Baber of the Mountain Party split the remaining 5 percent of 300 likely West Virginians polled by R.L Repass & Partners. The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.

Tomblin campaign spokesman Chris Stadelman said the numbers, released Sept. 2, were not surprising and were consistent with other polls.
