Election Notes:
  • The stated total for Schively is 107,195 but the county figures add up to 107,215. The Secretary of State's election database cites the latter total.
  • Prior to 1907, the Washington State Insurance Commission was a department under the Secretary of State. The state legislature made the Insurance Commission independent in 1907 and the first election for Insurance Commissioner was in 1908. John Schively was the incumbent, having been appointed to the old Insurance Commissioner office by the Secretary of State in 1901. Schively was impeached by the State Legislature in 1909 due to allegations of corruption (Sam Nichols, the Secretary of State, was also under investigation but resigned before impeachment proceedings began). The State Senate acquitted Schively in August of 1909 and he completed his term, but was not renominated in 1912.
