The Secretary of State's election database gives the Burns total as 4,858 with 822 votes in Skagit County. But this figure does not make sense and is inconsistent with the overall Socialist vote and the total number of votes in Skagit County based on other statewide races. In the source, it can be difficult to differentiate 3s and 8s. Although Burns' printed hundreds place figure in Skagit County does resembles an 8, a close inspection will show that it does not look like the other printed 8s and is in fact a 3. The PDF in the URL below is fairly low resolution, so it is difficult is discern; I imaged on my own a physical copy of the abstract (at the State Archives) and blew up the image to get a much better look.
