Nick Saban isn't even the best coach active right now, let alone of all time.

Recruiter? Yes. Coach? No.

Who is?

Chris Petersen at Washington. Followed closely by Bill Snyder at Kansas St. and Gary Patterson at TCU.

I’m a Washington alum and even I don’t agree with this

It has just as much to do with his impressive work at Boisie State than at Washington.

But my pitch is that nobody in college football consistently does more with less than Petersen, save perhaps Snyder or Patterson (and Dantonio makes a strong case as well). To me, that's what truly makes an elite coach, rather than an elite recruiter/program CEO (which is how I'd categorize Saban, Meyer and Swinney). Petersen has built winners everywhere at places with significant structural disadvantages, which I value very highly.

It's also why I wouldn't feel uncomfortable if I were tasked with building an argument that Barry Alvarez is one of the all-time greats.

Peterson deserves a lot of credit for his success at Boise State, but he didn't build that program from ground up; he just brought them from Top 25 to BCS level and college football in the 2000s was less biased towards the elite and powerful conferences (sound familiar?)  than it is now. He's a great coach but his brand has faded some in his last years in Boize and to a lesser extent UDub. Agreed on Bill Snyder just because Kansas State was literally nothing when he arrived in 1989 but he's also reached a ceiling. Patterson might have the strongest case of the 3 you mentioned, but Peterson has more legendary bowl wins and f**k TCU.

Meyer also did build Bowling Green and Utah into winners before Florida/Ohio State so I'd say he's more than just a CEO.

I'm a Michigan fan, so even acknowledging Meyer as an elite "CEO-style" coach was painful, but if I were to set aside my bias, I would agree with you. Tongue

The music takes in this thread regarding hip hop are actually bad. In fact, most takes in this thread fall under the category of really bad. But music is my favorite thing so those takes are killing me especially.

In other news, this particular old, fossilized white man is a rap fan. When driving on the glorious scenic roads of the Hudson Valley, and the nearby Berkshires, often to a dog park for Roby to frolic and socialize in), Dan and I, using Pandora,  switch back and forth between TJR (which we also use for a certain indoor sport but I digress), Health (great when mellowed out), a rap station, and modern classical music. Don't box me in baby. I don't like boxes.

Increasing the minimum wage to $15 all in one shot is a horrible idea.

Elizabeth Warren is not condescending.

Warm weather is less stressful than cold weather

Winco and Costco are the two best grocery stores.

That JFK is a lot more responsible for making the Dems the party of the costal elites than people realize.

The 1950’s weren’t a socially conservative decade.
