Righteous Kill

Wow. As downhill as Pacino and De Niro have gone you still think they would be too embarassed to star in that piece of crap. And the "shocking" twist ending was beyond comical.

Towelhead.

Reminded me of Welcome to the Dollhouse. Nowhere near as brilliant obviously, but still good. The title and trailer are misleading though, racial bigotry is a pretty minor part of the movie.

Yes and no.  I mean, the whole reason she had to hide her relationship with the black guy was due to her dad's racism.  Actually, the whole reason she had to hide everything from her father was a mixture of his racism and misogyny.

The bit where that liberal family takes her in and the dad tells off her father in Arabic struck me as pretty absurd.

I thought the idea was that something hits closer to home if one hears it in their native language.

That part was great but the ending was a bit of an uber-Hollywood copout. On a whole I'd give it a B.

Taken.

It's like what Jason Bourne would be like 20 years later. Tons of fun.

Taken.

Kind of boring, and Liam Neeson should stop trying to pretend to speak with an American accent. It's painful.

WTF?

Up until his daughter was kidnapped perhaps, but after that it was boring?

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist.

Awesome. I've basically concluded that teen movies today are good ONLY if they star Michael Cera.

The International.

It was great, a rare film with great action that was also clearly for intelligent and thinking adults. Unlike a certain other pile of garbage opening this weekend which based on the ticket line attracted one of the most annoying crowds I have ever seen...

Pride and Glory.

Wow, bleak. Great performances from Norton and Farrell. Really pushed the envelope in what a film is willing to show, especially the scene with Farrell and the baby. I'm shocked that remained in the cut.

Good Night, and Good Luck.

Eh, actually rather boring. An important story, but not the most interesting one. It probably would be more interesting to have a film about those who went against McCarthy more directly.

Sex Drive.

Much better than most movies of its type today. Not a classic but it managed to be funny instead of just crude and raunchy and not funny.

In The Valley of Elah - a pretty good anti-war movie with Tommy Lee Jones.  Anyone seen it?

I liked it but I thought the message got a bit too blatant. Movies should be more subtle.

Then you're quite dense. Brilliant movie, at least the first 3/4 of it. The Winky's scene near the beginning is absolutely classic.

Watchmen.

Way better than the bit of the graphic novel I read, it was very intense and stylish, despite the plot being kind of disjointed, and Nite Owl looking like Rick Santorum.

The Lucky Ones.

What could've been a rather charming story was kind of wrecked by the fact that it could't really decide if it wanted to be a comedy or drama. Plus the soundtrack was super-annoying, it was like something from an early 80s sitcom. Still there were some great performances from Tim Robbins, Michael Pena and Rachel McAdams.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno

It was pretty funny though what was with it becoming a chick flick at the end?

The shoestring budget also meant horrible production values and acting and I found it overall more funny than brutal but for the wrong reasons. That's why I think that remake actually looks better.

Religulous.

Maher was often funny and made a lot of good points, but he was also a total ass at times, and the ending was simply ridiculous. Like it could've easily been something from one of Einzige's posts. It's not going to win anyone over.

American Teen.

Absolutely HORRIBLE. I made it about halfway through before I couldn't take it any more. It was so blatantly scripted and fake and the idea this was some realistic look at high school was downright laughable. The "characters" were all such archetypes, like actual ficticious characters in a movie which sort of completely contradicts this sort of thing and yet none were interesting. It failed at being either real or entertaining, the worst of both worlds.

This will be the second movie from Netflix I've ever given 1 star to that I wasn't already aware was going to be horrible and was watching for laughs/curiosity when I put it on my queue (the first being Shortbus.)

Margot at the Wedding

Now this was no The Squid and the Whale but it managed to be rather enjoyable. Jack Black's casting a movie like this was a stroke of genius really, he provided all the needed comic relief.

That was, uh, different. I think Eraserhead would be a big fan.

I just finished watching Milk.

It was good but, honestly, it's probably a bit overrated.

You watched a liberal movie?
