Eliminate:
September 2000
January 1961
May 1946

Keep:
May 2005
(a defining and epoch-making referendum in terms of electoral sociology: it seems to have disappeared now, whereas the dividing line is deeply entrenched in the French people)
April 1969 (just in case...)

January 1961

Thank God 2005 wasn't ousted early. While the results were depressing, and the campaign of the NO was dishonest and ridiculous (shock); the results are fascinating on the electoral sociology level and are seldom repeated in actual elections. Fascinating if you're an analyst, depressing if you're a EU hack and a wet dream if you're a eurosceptic hack.

3 to April 1962 (the big thing was before, the referendum added nothing)
2 to October 1946 (a bad compromise and an unstable regime)
1 to May 1870 (it came too late...)

2 to October 1946
