I hope people will chose to vote publicly nonetheless, but anyways that's fine with me.

To demonstrate my support for a secret ballot option, I'll cast a secret vote as well.

...
I honestly don't understand what you are willing to "demonstrate" and to whom.

I just think it's perfectly all right that you may want to cast a non-public vote. What's wrong with secret ballot?

But the question is : why should one want to ?
This is the only thing I don't understand. We don't have mafia bosses that could give you money in exchange of your vote. We don't have an angry mob that will lynch those who don't vote like them. There is basically no reason one could wish to hide his vote.

I am extremely sad that I have to say that, but I spoke with a number of our members privately (and I won't disclose their identity), who said they are preferring to cast a secret vote in order not to face an enmity.

From who ? And for which reason ?

We can talk via PM if you prefer. But please understand that it's hard for me to believe in something I don't see, and I have never seen any enmity related to the UDL primary so far.

You can believe me or not, it's your choice, pal. But people trusted me with sharing their concerns privately and I'm not an ass to disclose them.

You know what my purpose is ? My purpose is to put an end to a series of misunderstandings, of rumours and of irrationality that has led to create an unpleasant climate in this party. The candidates, the councilors and the party members : during the whole primary process, all of them acted exactly as they should have. The campaign was mostly civil, if we except initial uncertainties about the publicity or not of the vote. Now for some reason I learn that some people feel intimidated, and I ask myself "why ?". There are only two possible answers to my questions : 1° There is something going behind the curtains I'm unaware of, or 2° People are acting irrationally. In any case, the only solution to this problem is to know more about the situation.

We are an open party, a party where everybody has his say, a party where people don't mistrust each other, a party where people shouldn't fear retaliation for speaking their mind : a party of friends. We must remain a party of friends, or we will die.

I know, ok? But please realize one thing: raging like "I want to know who" or "I have no respect for such people" etc. etc. IS NOT HELPING US, FOR F**K'S SAKE!

Where did I ever talk about respect ? The only thing I want is a party where people don't have useless secrets which makes people mistrustful. If there is someone who is bullying people behind the curtain (which I highly doubt), he must be stopped. Otherwise, we must fight against irrational fear. I don't want to know secrets for the sake of knowing them.

Pardon, it wasn't you.

I sincerely hope the council approves a public vote. I would have much less respect for people who don't have the balls, frankly, to openly state their preference. At least have some freaking courage here, people. This is a political party. Encouraging secrecy like this accomplishes nothing and only hurts us.

Point is: whenever we have public vote only or optional private vote, there are bad feelings already, so just get over with this damn thing.

This reminds me of the RPP during the Hamilton days. The only thing missing is someone planning to leave the UDL and start another party behind everyone's back while pledging loyalty in public. Tongue

Have some of you people lost your minds?

Jesus Christ.

I side with Antonio on this one, Kal. The drama is your own creation. What your "demonstrating" isn't necessary, and you're "demonstrating" it to people who I don't even think exist, since I'm certainly not among them. You accomplish nothing by this constant freaking out over something I can't even see! I don't even know what "enmity" you, or anyone else, are talking about!

This is one of the most fucked up presidential campaigns I've ever seen and for all the dumbest reasons possible. Constant made-up drama, personal vendetta, and personal nitpicking made into semi-scandals because people constantly cycle and recycle them over and over and a primary caused by a stubborn member who refuses to back down and random members who I act like I'm the unelectable antichrist by proceeding to refuse to support me in any way possible making it a self-fufilling prophecy.

If you people actually wanted this to be simple and non-dramatic, you would make it so yourselves. I'm sick and tired about reading about drama I sense nowhere, or people pretending that I'm going to pick up a baseball bat and "visit" the house of their mother's if they don't vote for me.

Kalwejt, you are causing these problems yourself. Stop it. Take a look at what you're doing if you still (or ever) care about the UDL at all. You may as well be running the JCP campaign all by yourself at this point.

And if I lose this presidential primary because of all this BS, I'm retiring from elective politics. This has been by far one of the dumbest experiences I've ever been a part of so far and for the life of me, I can't understand why. I've done nothing but try to run a damn campaign and work on my platform and debate the issues, and all around me, everyone else is going completely crazy.

And for the record, a little bit of honesty here, if any of you actually think Ben stands a greater chance on the national scene against the other two tickets out there, you're equally blitzed. His campaign's been practically non-existent at this point and he offers and inspires nothing. Voting for him as a protest against something no one can even explain is an incredibly stupid way to pick a nominee.

I'm tired of getting on Atlasia every day and bracing myself for the newest stupid controversy and mountain out of a molehill. You are all sealing the UDL's doom and people in the JCP and on the RPP private forum are laughing their asses off at all of us right now. And with the way some of you people continue to act, they have perfectly good reason.

Vote for me, or don't. I've offered numerous reasons why you should elsewhere. If you care at all about accomplishing something serious in Atlasian politics, look at my platform, ask me questions, I don't care. But don't act two faced or freak out on issues of your own creation. I can't argue against something I just do not understand.

I honestly don't understand why people are so adamantly against allowing previously made private votes to stand. If this is really a party of unity, togetherness, and the like, then we must accept the fears of its constituents, justified or not, and allow said constituents to vote in a manner which they accept.
