http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2012/02/27/432664/ron-paul-never-attacked-romney/?mobile=nc

While Paul has freely attacked Romney’s top rivals, he has never once attacked Romney. This is particularly striking given that Paul and Romney do not agree on virtually any policy positions.

Paul has gone beyond merely refraining from attacks. He has actively defended Romney on some of his biggest vulnerabilities. For example, when Rick Perry attacked Romney for “Romneycare” during an October 18 debate, Paul interjected:

First off, you know, the governor of Texas criticized the governor of Massachusetts for “Romneycare,” but he wrote a really fancy letter supporting “Hillarycare.” So we probably ought to ask him about that.

Paul has also run advertisements attacking Romney’s key rivals at critical times. He ran hundreds of thousands of dollars in brutally negative ads attacking Gingrich in Iowa. Paul now is using his scarce funds on a television ad attacking Rick Santorum in Michigan, a key state where Paul is a non-factor.

Paul is effectively acting as Romney’s on-stage surrogate during the debates. The key question is: what is Paul getting out of it?

Before this campaign I respected Ron Paul even though I agreed with him on zilch... but he was a free thinker I believed- but this shows he is not genuine

The same reason he won't run as an Indy. Rand's future in the party would be threatened by it.

Don't worry. We won't let the slightly less insane jackass go anywhere in the party either.

Lol. Who was the only tea partier to be elected senator in 2010? He's in the senate, your guy isn't. As for who Paul has attacked in the debates, it's no coincidence that Rick Santorum has the lion's share. Rick Santorum goes after him in the debates quite a bit. Note that the 2 candidates who left him alone (Huntsman and Romney) were the 2 he didn't attack.

Uh...Rubio wasn't a Tea Partier? And depending on how it's defined, others can be classified as Tea Partiers, too. And my guy was in the Senate for twelve years. What's your point aside from the usual, childish "Haha, your guy lost an election!"?

I imagine if someone compiled the same chart for Santorum it'd be even more lopsided with attacks against Paul.  Golden Rule and all that.

Rubio isn't caucusing with the tea party. Do you really put him in the same category as Joe Miller, Christine O'Donnell and Sharron Angle? But anyway apparently this Jerry Moran guy is in the caucus so my point is false but Rand Paul has gone somewhere in the party. I don't care if Santorum lost by 19 points or whatever it was. At least he went forward to the people. But to say that you won't let a family who already have a seat in congress and the senate  gain influence in the party is incorrect.

Jerry Moran was supposed to be the moderate GOP candidate... Todd Thiart (or whatever his name was) lost the primary to him running as the tea party candidate. So, yes, Rand may be the only real tea party senator here... But I think Phil is right when he saiys Paul has become part of the establishment not criticising Romney.

No but now you're moving the goal posts. He identified as a Tea Partier and there were other Tea Partiers elected to the Senate in that caucus now.

That doesn't mean he is influential.

Whatever the case, he will only gain real national influence if someone is crazy enough to make him their running mate.

We clearly have different definitions of a tea partier.

We also clearly have different ideas of what being influential in the party is. I think election to the senate in a party automatically gives you influence in the party.

Ok, uh...I'm going by how the candidates describe themselves. You lost this one, dude. There was more than one Tea Partier elected to the Senate.

Well of course! Because in many cases, a vote for Romney is a vote for Paul. Remember that he has a fifth column embedded infiltrated in Romney's delegate slates. So he has far more reason to attack the other GOP candidates. Oh, and what wormyguy said. Quite pathetic that Santorum has to pick on Ron Paul of all the GOP candidates though, that's as if Obama was running attack ads against Bob Barr in 2008.

1.  Ron Paul doesn't expect to win.
2.  Mitt Romney is the least offensive and most malleable of the remaining candidates.

therefore

3.  Ron Paul avoids attacking Mitt Romney.

QED.

He hasn't attacked him in any debate throughout the campaign.

What's to stop Paul from putting Manchurian Ninja delegates in Gingrich or Santorum's slates?
