Facebook should be nationalized and state-run, like all natural monopolies.

But the executives who received these options will have to pay taxes on them so it's not all bad.

Do you really think that tax income adds up to more than what they lost and gave away to Facebook?

But clearly $9.00 an hour is far too high a minimum wage.

Well, let's see if this will continue to be the case when the Republicans finally get us into an unmitigated sovreign debt crisis.

Woah, lets not go too far. Facebook is a private service.

Considering the preferable fate for such would be guillotining, forgive me for feeling a bit depressed.

No, of course not.  I wasn't being serious.

What really should happen is we need to switch the corporate tax structure to a flat tax with no exemptions or deductions.  Simpler, flatter, fairer, and if Obama proposes it, socialism.

Every single person here should be incredibly concerned about the growth of Facebook, it's integration into virtually all aspects of life, and how it provides a means for corporate interests -- or really, anyone with money to spend -- to track every public movement and thought of yours at all times.

With all the paranoia surrounding government surveillance and them knowing so much about us, people don't seem to be all that concerned with private entities tracking down and owning their information and pictures for corporate profit.

It's Corporatism. That's the whole issue. People mistake a "hands-off" approach as something that will bring them that much closer to pure capitalism because of the haphazard rhetoric being thrown around all the time. In reality all it does is push us closer to falling off an economic cliff into some sort of corporate autocracy. We have a political system infested with profiteers in office with no intention to actually benefit their constituents. And we have a powerful oligarchical media structure that reinforces it by keeping the public either uninformed or misinformed.

Pretty much.  Adam Smith would not approve of tax subsidies.

Perhaps there should be an AMT equivalent for corporate taxes. But unlike the AMT, this one would actually get adjusted for inflation every tax year.

The AMT becoming inflation-adjusted was part of the fiscal cliff deal.

History has unfortunately shown that capitalism evolves into corporatism.

Facebook should not have to pay any taxes as it gives to the world an essential service. If Facebook was made to pay taxes it might have to charge for the basic human right of "liking" 1980s breakfast cereals or telling everyone of your 19,375 friends that you are in a relationship but "it's complicated." That kind of service deserves a tax refund. After all their stock sucks so cut them a break, or maybe you don't want to know what your arch-rival in middle school is doing at each minute of the day.

I think every one of us who feels this is disgraceful should boycott facebook.
