Dinner is over and my head already feels better. The pill along with the food cut the headache from a 6 down to a 4 on a scale of 1-10. I'm not doing anything else the rest of the evening except relax and watch baseball, so hopefully, my headache will continue to go down.

My headache keeps slowly improving.  Right now, it is at about a 3.0 average on the aforementioned scale.  I say average because it has been fluctuating between a 2.0 and 4.0.  I'm going to get another very light snack here pretty quick.

I've learned something today.  With high blood pressure, I need to eat more than once a day.  I need to have at least two medium size meals a day.  A light snack and a big dinner doesn't work too well.  Three small to medium size meals a day is probably ideal, but I'm going to try two medium size meals a day.  Basically, I'm going to try to combine breakfast and lunch into brunch and then dinner.  I may have a few peanuts, in the middle of the afternoon, but as far as main meals, just a medium size brunch and dinner.  What does everyone think about that?

Eat 1800-2000 calories a day, get in some exercise and you will lose weight. Push yourself on exercise a little more or farther each day. Peanuts are likely too calorie dense in beginning and will sabotage you. This isn't freaking brain surgery. Once you get in a more manageable weight you can start experimenting on other stuff.

Headache is sitting at a 1.5 at nearly 21:30.  I really think not eating had a lot to do with my headache.

I don't think you should not eat anything for a day. You need to exercise control day in and day out. You should eat everyday, but you need to control yourself. No desserts any day! No "cheat" snacks or meals anyday. Eat healthy everyday and exercise everyday and you will be fine.

Of course, you will not follow my advice.

Nuts are honestly pretty high in calories for something so small. You'd be surprised how quickly you ran rack up the calories munching on them. Buy those little 200-calorie packets, or else you risk letting your portion sizes get away from you. And make sure they're plain nuts. Not covered in sugar or drenched in hydrogenated oil or something.

Here are some other healthy, low calorie snack ideas:

My normal bed time is not for another 2 - 2 1/2 hours, but I am going to go on to bed now.  My eyes are really fading right now.

Well, you should probably see a doctor and ask for his or her advice. I didn't know you had high blood pressure (although really I should have seen that one coming) so you probably need professional advice on how to manage both that and dieting. This fasting every other day/every couple of days thing isn't for everyone. And remember that that wasn't like the only thing in my post on the last page.. watch those documentaries and get into better habits on a daily basis. There are lots of ideas out there, you just need to pick what you can reasonably do and stick to it.

I will say that dropping out after one day is poor. Your headache could have been from many things. My best guess is that you were thirsty. Dehydration is an excellent way to get a headache. Much of your daily water needs actually come from food, and you need to be substituting for that during a fast by drinking plenty of water. If you were getting enough fluids, it still could have been just a random headache. With a one day sample size it's impossible to say.

I'm enjoying my second day of fasting, anyway. I look forward to seeing what happens to my body over the coming weeks.

Bible quote guilt-trip time?!

Proverbs 16:3 Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

Proverbs 23:2 Put a knife to your throat, if you are a man given to appetite.

Proverbs 23:21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

Phillippians 3:19 Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things.

2 Thessalonians 3:10 For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”

Oh and hey Bushie, since you're going to ignore this anyway, I thought I'd also include this last one as a reminder that Mr. Jesus already knows your excuses are bull-scheisse!

Proverbs 26:16 The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who can answer sensibly.

Yes, BK. Dropping Psalms on 'em. I am at point where I am just going to be full on drill sergeant on Bushie. The well meaning advice is stage is over. I get the sense that so many people in our protagonists' life are coddling him: Oh Gee whiz, Jeff is trying. However, thinking about doing something and talking about doing something is not trying. And from all accounts he will pay lip service that he tried and failed and will then manipulate people into doing what he wants. That is cowardly behavior.  I don't really know why I care but I do. I suppose I turned my life around quite a bit and I'd really like to see him do the same. Maybe some bizarre need to pay it forward.

I'm definitely not going to give up.  The headache could very well have been from dehydration as I was feeling a little off yesterday until I got dinner.  Today, I'll have another chance to do pretty much the same thing.  I'll have a light snack (this time we have snacks!), before we eat supper at 16:15.  I'm anxious to get on the scale in just a few minutes to see how I did yesterday.  One thing to note after supper last night, I had nothing else to eat and maybe just had one Diet Dr. Pepper.

I am going to try to get in to see my doctor before the end of May, just the same.  I want to ask him about the proper way to lose weight for me, I want to ask him to increase to dosage of my Tourette's medicine, and I want to inform him that I am going to Africa.  I've read that it is a very good idea to tell your doctor if you are traveling overseas, so that if you have any complications when you get home, your doctor will have a better idea why and know better what to do.

BK, I appreciate the Scripture that you gave.  I know those verses well, but its always good to be reminded of them.

Patrick, I am done just paying lip service, I am at a point now where if I give lip service, I better be able to back it up with solid, tangible evidence.  I'm not going to quit trying different methods until I start dropping the weight and then I will stick with the method that is allowing me to shed the pounds.  This could be quite fun, actually!

Hash, the headache was real yesterday, but it is no excuse.  The headache was completely gone by 22:30 last night, and I fully expected for my body to have to adjust to not eating as much.  I wasn't surprised at all by that headache, and by no means, am I going to let that derail me.

Let me put this down again:

Update:  I weighed in this morning at 274.0.  On one hand, it wasn't as big as I was expecting, but on the other hand, I'm not surprised.  While I didn't eat anything until 17:00, I know that meal wasn't the right meal to have after fasting for the 22 hours prior, from 19:00 Thursday to 17:00 Friday.  Today, it will be a 23 hour fasting, from 17:30 Friday to 16:30 Saturday.  Anyway, the point to this story is I'm going to try to watch what I eat a little closer this evening and we'll see what happens tomorrow morning.

Claiming your headache was from not eating is just a cop out, especially since you also took a pill, yet conveniently gave credit to eating to explain why it went away... Tongue

Yes, if you have high blood pressure, ask your doctor how to diet, but normally headaches come from dehydration. I haven't heard of someone getting a headache from not eating.

I'm really unsure what caused the headache to be honest.  It could have been from dehydration, it could have been from not eating, or it could be from something different altogether.  I don't have one right now, and I'm 17 hours removed from my last bite of food, so who knows.  I still have roughly 6 hours or a little more until I eat again.  Tomorrow, I'm going to do this one meal thing again except my meal will be at lunch, instead of dinner.

Medically, I've never heard of not being to cause a headache. I'm not just making up facts. You were probably dehydrated.

In any event, you may need to make sure your medication doesn't require you to eat. My grandmother was diabetic in her later years and had to eat once every few hours. You dieting may be more difficult than the rest of us given your extensive list of health conditions.

As far as I know, none of my medications require food.  They would probably work better with food.  Still, though, I am going to call the doctor Monday and try to get in before the end of the month so I can ask him what the best dieting method for me would be.

It's too bad Bushie got an iPhone instead of a Droid. This is a game he should play: http://www.ingress.com

Check it out, it's a game you play by LEAVING THE HOUSE and WALKING AROUND. Very beneficial. I'm going to go shower and then head out to portals around my neighborhood just to play the game. See you all.

Headache is sitting at a 1.5 at nearly 21:30.  I really think not eating had a lot to do with my headache.

I always get a headache if I don't eat.  Not eating is probably the single worst thing you can do to yourself.

Come to think about it, the headache is likely not from the lack of food.  I get headaches nearly every day whether I eat or not.  So, I'm pretty sure eating has nothing to do with it, and at the same time, I don't think dehydration played a big role, for that very reason.  I've got another headache trying to come on and its sitting about a 3.5 out of 10.

Tonight, I am going to do something radically different for me.  I am going to read something other than the Bible.  I am going to start reading Total Church by Steve Timmis.  The book is about church planting, which is something I want to do in Kenya.  Of course, I will read the Bible, too and prepare my first Wednesday Evening Sermon in my Luke series that will be starting Wednesday, May 22, 2013.  My Bible readings tonight will be 2 Samuel 13-14 and John 3.  Early in the week, I need to start preparing my Sunday Morning Sermon for Sunday, June 2, 2013.  The book was recommended to me by my Missionary Friends to China and just happened to be in my church library.
