Holidays should be a day to spend time with friends and family and enjoy life, but some people unfortunately have to go to work on these days. This bill would give them fair compensation for their labor.

As someone who works retail, I fully support this.

Not sure what the current standards are for holiday pay, but it should indeed be paid extra. I guess given Yankee's support as a RL retail emplpyee I will support it.

There is no standard. IT varies by state.

We get a one time extra 15% discount for working Thanksgiving that has to be used on two select days, usually in early December and they are usually days we have to work. They recently changed this so now if you call out any day around Thanksgiving you lose this discount.

For Christmas, they are close and they used to give 8 hours of holiday pay for working your last scheduled shift before and first scheduled shift afterwards. But we no longer get "holiday" pay. Instead, eight hours (or a prorated amount if you are not full time) will be automatically deducted from your pool of paid time off and that is only if you have enough in there to cover it. Otherwise you are SOL.

I support this bill as it will clearly assist workers receive holiday pay, however I would also support some sort of means to mandate that non-essential businesses be closed on holidays like Christmas Day and Thanksgiving if such a thing is viable.
