Bad Obama Presidency:

Sanford/Pawlenty: 278
Obama/Biden: 260

What do you think?
Virginia and New Mexico would flip long before Minnesota did.

Matheis and Mint,

>>Virginia and New Mexico would flip long before Minnesota did.

Generally true, but I suppose the only reason for picking Pawlenty
would be to flip Minnesota.  Still, I don't think Sanford would ever win
a Republican nomination with big hitters like Romney, Crist, Huckabee
and, well, Palin in the field.

Obama with a decent term against a moderate/liberal republican like Romney or Pawlenty

You are joking right?
Oregon has been trending hardcore Republican, since 1988! Smiley

I had Oregon as 40% republican so it's a VERY slim victory for them.

I've said this elsewhere, but I think that, if Mel Martinez were eligible to run, and with Huckabee on the bottom of the ticket, we'd get the closest election possible assuming Obama has an ok to good term.  The only Republican who could realistically do close to this well is, as I said above, Crist.  Here is the close "fantasy" race.

Obama-Biden            287
Martinez-Huckabee   251

I was being very nice to Romney and Palin. Romney wouldn't get the consv. base to come out to the polls like Palin can.

But she would scare off the moderates and independents that Romney would get.

Would she? Most of the today's  Independents are Republicans looking for a new face for the Republican Party.  Palin would to a whole lot better with southern independents then Romney would.

True, but no amount of moderates/independents will make up for not being able to win one's own base. One cannot win the election without winning the base of his own party first (of course that is not intended to suggest that all other groups are unnecessary). That is why, for a party to win, its nominee must attract BOTH the base AND moderates/independents. That is what Obama was able to do this year.
