  • Special election to fill vacancy after James Mandeville did not assume office in 1858 due to his appointment as United States Surveyor General for the District of California. Aaron Meloney was appointed to the office on Controller on April 27, 1858 with a special election scheduled later that year to fill the remainder of the term.
