The stated total for Ireland is 144,066 but the county figures add up to 144,069.
Special election to fill vacancy caused by the death of Robert Winbourn on August 7, 1930. John Underwood was initially appointed to the seat pending this special election, which was held simultaneously with the regularly scheduled election. Due to the closeness of the race, the Demcoratic-controlled General Assembly initially refused to certify the results and Ireland was not sworn in to complete the term. Underwood then died in a car crash on January 11, 1931, the day before the term was due to expire, rendering any potential challenges moot. Ireland, having also won the regularly scheduled election, was sworn the next day for a complete term ending in January 1933.
