Suprised this isn't on dumblaws.com.

For crying out loud, part of the problem with governments over time is they keep adding new laws and never get rid of them. Apparently they can't even get it repealed either, due to people who are still living in the 19th century and want to regulate how people live...

It won't be repealed, there is too big of Republican majority in the legislature. So much for limited government.

I just don't understand why they don't just hire a good lawyer. Any competent lawyer should be able to have the law stuck down.

So North Dakota, which repealed its similar law under a Republican legislature in 2007, is more progressive and modern than Florida. LOL.

Other fantastic Florida laws include:

-Men may not be seen publicly in any kind of strapless gown.
-Having sexual relations with a porcupine is illegal.
-It is illegal to skateboard without a license.
-When having sex, only the missionary position is legal.
-You may not fart in a public place after 6 P.M.
-It is considered an offense to shower naked.
-You are not allowed to break more than three dishes per day, or chip the edges of more than four cups and/or saucers.
-Women may be fined for falling asleep under a hair dryer, as can the salon owner.
-Oral sex is illegal.
-A special law prohibits unmarried women from parachuting on Sunday or she shall risk arrest, fine, and/or jailing.
-You may not kiss your wife’s breasts.

It appears this cohabitation law is actually real though.

Yes, it's clearly unconstitutional, violating the fundamental right to privacy and live with whom one chooses.

Disappointing but not surprising that the FL GOP won't agree to repeal it, but I am very surprised that that egregious infringement on privacy has not been taken to court, especially if people have actually been charged with it this century or in the latter half of the last century. Got to be one of the most unconstitutional, actually existing "crazy laws" that I've seen.

It's more a problem of time. The legislature is only in session for 60 days and has to drop most of the legislation proposed each session because they don't have enough time to get through them all. Repealing laws like this, which I assume was unused until some activist state attorney decided to start enforcing it again, wouldn't have anywhere near high enough priority to make it to the end.

Repeal already failed once and the quote of opposition was from a Republican. Republicans simply aren't going to pass a bill introduced by Democrats, that's how partisanship works.

^He's probably right here. I doubt the 2015 legislature will be much more progressive than it was a few years ago, and even good legislation sponsored by Democrats typically doesn't make it to a vote, much less to the governor's desk. Notably, Baxley (who's quoted as opposing the reform) sits on both the Criminal Justice & Rules (sub)Committees, and the Vice Chair of the Criminal Justice Subcommittee is the Rev. Charles Van Zant, who opposes Common Core because it "promotes homosexuality". Can't see Republicans wanting to bring this to a vote when their caucus will be significantly divided both in committee and on the floor.
