I encourage all of the Nay voters here to suggest how exactly they plan on both reducing drug use and making the lives of drug users safer.

Drug education programs, voluntary rehabilitation programs and incentives for people to stay off of drugs in general. I do not see how society in any way benifits from widespread drug usage, as such it should be a priority of the government of Atlasia to reduce drug usage. My personal view is that by easing restrictions on drug usage you will simply compound existing problems.

There was amendment earlier. A majority of you voted against it. You make the bed you sleep in.

I demand an apology.

Seconded.

It's uncivilised and un-Senatorial.

that's pretty much the one word you're not supposed to say when there are actual gay people around. It's like saying "n" in the presence of a black person.

While I am neither a Nay voter nor a Senator, I as an opponent of this bill explained my quelms with it in a National Weekly Atlasian article. The simple decriminalization of drugs will make them safer; they are unsafe current because they are illegal. Legal drugs would be make safer to meet market demand, as safe drugs are going to have better sales than unsafe drugs. It is like asking how the Atlasian government should make bread safer. In addition, I oppose this bill because of the specific wording of it; stating the the following drugs are legalized rather than simply saying that all drugs are legalized.

As far as I am aware, this bill covers everything illegal, and we must be specific else the courts will have to decide what constitutes a "drug" when someone brings a case.

Anyway, this legislation has enough votes to fail. Senators have twenty-four hours to change their votes.

After thoroughly reviewing the debate, I change my vote to 'aye'.

The reason for my previous abstain was that I did not participate in the debate and thought it uinappropriate for my vote to count towards the final passage unless the senate was divided. It is, and so I now cast a firm vote.

The result is 5-5.

With the time for changing votes having passed, the legislation is tied.

I cast a tiebreaking vote in favor.

With 6 votes in favor, and 5 votes against, the bill has passed and is presented to the President for his signature.

Does any Senator at this time wish to motion to overturn the President's veto?
