Obama’s gains may also be helping to fuel Democrats up and down the ticket to greater
success. Jay Nixon leads Kenny Hulshof for Governor 52-39, up from 48-42 in PPP’s
previous poll. Other statewide Democratic candidates leading their races by various
margins include Robin Carnahan, Chris Koster, and Clint Zweifel. Even the race for
Lieutenant Governor is approaching competitive status, with Peter Kinder leading
challenger Sam Page just 47-44.
PPP surveyed 1,009 likely voters on October 11th and 12th. The survey’s margin of error
is +/-3.1%. Other factors, such as refusal to be interviewed and weighting, may introduce
additional error that is more difficult to quantify.
