Obama by 9 in VA

Barack Obama continues to hold a dominating lead for President in Virginia. He is up 52-43, a result almost identical to a PPP survey conducted two and a half weeks ago that showed him leading 51-43.

There have not been any major shifts in the last few weeks but the following key themes
help to explain Obama’s continued success:
-He is up 48-39 with independent voters.
-He is winning 89% of the Democratic vote, bucking the historic trend of southern
Democrats sometimes voting Republican for President.
-He only trails 53-42 among white voters. PPP analysis earlier in the cycle found he
would probably be able to take the state if he could earn 39% with them.
