The poll was conducted by Critical Insights Research for Precise Pragmatic Direction on behalf of the newspaper. The poll has an error margin of +/- 4 percent, according to MaryEllen FitzGerald, president of Critical Insights of Portland, Maine. FitzGerald said the random, statewide poll of 600 likely voters across Pennsylvania was conducted as a baseline measurement effort in mid-September. The survey instrument was developed by Critical Insights, in collaboration with The Times Leader. Interviews were conducted by telephone, using a computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI) system. In order to qualify for inclusion in the survey, respondents had to: Be a registered voter in Pennsylvania. Indicate that they voted in the most recent presidential election in November 2008.
