On the face of it the prediction is very favourable for the Dems, however the swaths of red across the Midwest and West of the country belie the competitiveness of many of the contests and the narrowness of the margins which will separate the main candidates in many states.

With strong Democratic candidates, republican weakness at the national and local level in many states, I’m inclined to give the edge to the Democrats in states such as OH, PA, MI, WI, IA, MD and CO. That shouldn’t detract from the fact that many of these races will be very tight but as things stand the Democrats enjoy an advantage.
