I'm surprised that so many national Republican politicians have such a lack of spine.

Good lord.

Thank god I'm not one anymore.

>Not voting for a legitimate third party like the libertarians, Constitution, or even that Evan McMullin guy.

>Doing a write-in vote instead for a general who hasn't been relevant since 2000

Is he nuts? No wonder he's losing to Tammy Duckworth. Useless.

I honestly think the states that don't count all write-in votes shouldn't even offer it as an option.

Most people don't understand that if you write in the name of someone who is not registered as an official write-in candidate, it is functionally equivalent to not voting. Your ballot will be thrown out. It will not be included in the final totals. It will be as though you just stayed home.

And we should just do away with the whole "official write-in candidate" thing altogether and have those people on the ballot as independents.

Colin Powell was at his peak of relevance when he was Secretary of State(2001-2005). He managed to do quite a good job of keeping himself relevant when he endorsed Obama in 2008, but after that, the last possible time he could have ran for President, he's been essentially merely a great military expert with vast foreign policy experience instead of an elder statesmen. His endorsement of Obama in 2012 was inconsequential except that it ruined his relationship with the GOP for good.

It was more of an exaggeration on my part.

I said 2000 mainly because that was realistically near the end of when he could run for president.

It just seems like such an obscure choice for Mark Kirk to write-in, regardless if Powell would have been a great president or not.

Latina Former Bush Treasurer Endorses Clinton, Blasts Trump

Rosario Marin endorsed Clinton in a Univision op-ed because of Trump’s rhetoric and policies throughout the election. “I will stand up for my community against the menace of a tyrannical presidency that does not value the countless contributions of immigrants.”

It was after he got criticized for saying he'd write in Petraeus. Powell makes a lot more sense than Mitt Romney or Jeb Bush, IMO, especially in Illinois.

Former General Motors CEO and lifelong Republican Daniel Akerson writes an op-ed for WaPo on why he's not voting for a GOP prez candidate for the first time in his life.

Interesting bit on why he's not just #NeverTrump, but also voting for Clinton:

Jeff Flake's conditions for supporting Trump: Apologize to McCain, Mexican immigrants, and Judge Curiel, drop the Muslim ban and reverse himself on immigration and trade.

http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/blog/business/2016/08/sen-jeff-flake-donald-trump-needs-to-apologize.html

I'm not going to hold my breath on Trump agreeing to any of that.  Tongue

Hasn't the Muslim Ban already been modified so that not all Muslims are banned and yeah he's not going to get the trade flip-flop.

He should actually apologize to McCain, even though I truly hate this guy. He should though be criticized for such a warmongering **shole. Probably waterboarded as well.

He should also apologize to Judge Curiel. And probably Khan family. But not gonna happen Smiley

Pretty powerful piece.

"I have a sense for these things. I am not, like Judge Gonzalo Curiel, just the child of immigrants but an immigrant myself. I was four years old when my family and I fled Prague just after the Nazis invaded. I was 13 when I raised my hand and swore an oath of allegiance to the United States and became a citizen."

Former Secretaries of State Kissinger and Schultz say they won’t endorse anyone this time, thus putting them in the George Bush category of “refuse to talk about who they’re voting for”:

http://www.cnn.com/2016/09/02/politics/henry-kissinger-george-shultz-donald-trump-hillary-clinton/

That said, Schultz a couple of weeks ago:

And so I’ve updated in the list in the OP accordingly.

I’m also taking Reichert off the #NeverTrump list, because he’s clarified that even though he won’t endorse Trump, he *might* still vote for him:

Also, as noted in the Evan McMullin thread, at least one person on my #NeverTrump list has endorsed McMullin:

It sure would be nice if they could run an ad in Utah (say about $2 million) with Romney endorsing McMullin. I mean, if that's the way Romney's leaning, he could buy the ad himself.
