This is exactly the sort of thing that Obama really, really does not need right now.  And it keeps happening!

I haven't been convinced that this primary season has been all that bloodying to anyone's General Election chances, but any sign that the party establishment is not ready to flood to him could indicate that it will start gravitating that way pretty soon.

Is there any type of Easley machine in North Carolina?  Essentially, is there any Rendell type figure among North Carolina Democrats?

I think you're overreacting.  One governor doesn't really indicate a trend.  And Bingaman endorsed Obama on the same day, so it's not exactly a flood of support for Clinton today, but rather one superdel.

Easley is very popular and very moderate. He runs from the national party at any chance. Not surprising he'd endorse Hillary.

She not being a living embodiment of the establishment.

She is, but she has the perception of being more moderate, but in reality they are probably about the same.

Hillary's superdelegate lead is now +21, the lowest it's ever been. What's the big deal? This will affect NC's primary as much as Pennsylvania and Massachusetts were affected by Casey and Ted Kennedy.

Former DNC chair Paul Kirk has endorsed Obama.

There you go. That cancels out Easley (though actually Bingaman already did.)

Kirk has been in Obama's camp since February.

Rep. Ben Chandler (D-KY) for Obama. Meanwhile, his district votes so strongly for Clinton, it loops back around and votes for Obama instead.

Also, DNC member Richard Machacek (IA) for Obama. That brings the margin down below twenty among superdelegates.

Chandler's district will probably be one of Obama's better ones in Kentucky (which isn't saying a lot)

Yeah, I realized I was confusing it with the areas to its east.

There are some civil servants in Chandler's district. Obama's done very well with them so far.

Yeah it's got Frankfort in it doesn't it? Also has the Lexington area which actually contains some educated whites. Obama might even be able to hold that seat to a split.

Something I find notable is the rate of endorsements seems to be rapidly speeding up. SDs are probably now realizing they can't stay out much longer. They seem to be coming in about 50/50 but that's all Obama needs (Hell, Obama could handle getting only 40% of remaining SD endorsements.)

DNC member Bill George of Pennsylvania for Clinton.

Rep. Bruce Braley of Iowa (previously for Edwards) now for Obama.

Today's a big day for endorsements.  In addition to the three above:

For Clinton: Puerto Rico DNC Luisette Cabanas

For Obama: Rep. Lois Capps

Amusing...

http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080430/NEWS0106/804300929/1008/NEWS01

Denis Fleming, Chandler's chief of staff, said that the congressman's offices in Lexington and Washington had received about 300 phone calls opposing his decision -- and only five in favor -- by about 2:30 p.m. yesterday.

Some of the calls, he said, were "racially insensitive," while other callers simply said that Chandler should have waited until after Kentucky's May 20 primary or should have endorsed Clinton.
