I read about that on my news widget at work yesterday. Yeah seriously that was a tragic persecution of Spitzer.

You can bet WalterMitty has a new favorite governor now though!

Ahh yes the old "more taxes during an economic downturn" tactic.  Brilliant!

Just turn the $110 clothing tax into a naked tax and this would be an all-around tax on fun

I agree with what Nate Silver says, if he has to raise taxes it'd be more politically astute to just raise income or general sales taxes. This'll just piss people off more.

The Chosen One does policy commentary, too? Oh, great! Well, now we know which side of every debate is correct!

You haven't been reading his site lately then. Since there's not much election stats to crunch anymore he's commenting more on policies, strategies each party should try, etc.

It's honestly a good idea. Nothing is more unhealthy than soda. The reason we have the obesity problem in this country is because too many people drink soda. If you can justify excessive taxes on alcohol (like Mississippi does), something which is not drank by small children outside of communion, then things like soda and candy, which kids pour all over, certainly can be taxed. Soda is just as unhealthy as the pack of Marlboros I used to smoke everyday, in fact I'd say moreso. Takes cigarettes years to kill you, only takes a few weeks of overconsumption of soda and sweets to start packing the weight on.

Honestly, I would not oppose a law requiring children to be a certain age before they purchase or consume soda, something like 12 or 14, which would be verified by state ID the way hunting licenses are

In fairness, he's made substantial cuts in spending and property tax. Certainly looks better than that clown Spitzer or Pataki.

Very true. I would rather have my kid get hooked on meth or heroin than drink soda in fact. NOTHING is worse than it.

Ridiculous. If a person is obese, she can do exercices and that will disappear. That is not my problem if the people is not active in Mississippi and they are the most obese state.

Or they can just drink foreign soda (it's sold everywhere now) with real sugar instead of that disgusting HFCS sh!t. Its HFCS that's the problem, not soda. Just ban that if you want to solve the problem.

I'm honestly tempted to bail out for Uruguay/Argentina since it appears impossible for westerners to make a tolerable society without idiotic social engineering. Notice how the most xenophobic/'pure' western nations(scandanavia) are the most socially pushy? There's a reason for that. No outsiders to dilute their notions of socialsim.

Remember the proposed law in the Mississippi legislature to make it illegal for restaurants to serve fat people? LOL.
