Honestly. Hawaii closed at 11 EST in 2012, why did it go back to its 2010 poll closing time?

Polls closed at 6PM local time in both elections.  But Hawaii doesn't follow Daylight Savings Time.  So, in the summer, it is 6 hours behind the East Coast, not 5 hours.

According to the AP, absentee voting was up more than 12%.  Almost 160,000 voters cast early ballots.

That has to include mail-in absentee ballots, which are valid if received before 6PM today.  Voters can deliver those absentees to any polling place, too.

Apparently Hanabusa criticized the airstrikes on ISIS? I'm kind of surprised.

According to Hawaii News Now, we are expecting to get a results "printout" around 6:45PM (12:45AM Eastern), then every hour on the hour, likely until around 11PM (5AM Eastern).  We will have a five-minute warning before the first printout is released.

Hoping that the first few release dumps are fairly big - I do have to go to sleep at some point, and it's already 11:21 PM here. Assuming AP/AOS doesn't have any other way to get results aside from the printouts, I'll stay around until the third, maybe the fourth if there are a ton of things uncalled. After that, I'll leave it to the rest of you for the night and resume results watching in the mid-morning.

As of now, HI is counting about as fast as DC does, which means nothing is in. At all.

Yeah, Hawaii is "unique" that way. It'll be a late night because of the print out system.

Civil Beat says first printout won't come in until 7PM Hawaii time (1 AM eastern).

Hawaii News Now, interviewing the chief Hawaiian election official, says it might come as early as 6:45PM.  As I said earlier, traditionally, it should include 100% of the walk-in early vote and 60% or so of the mail-in absentee vote - minus the two precincts where the election was postponed.  They're not even releasing the early or absentee vote for those precincts.

How big are the two precincts in which voting was extended?

Hawaii News Now:

As of a few minutes ago, 21 of 142 polling places on Oahu were still open due to people on line.  Unclear what is open on the neighbor islands.  No results can be released until all the polling places are closed.

In the first printout, we should expect 104,000 votes, roughly 1/3rd of the vote from the 2012 primaries.

They have a couple thousand votes. I can't remember the exact numbers.

They have about 8,000 registered voters total.  About 2,100 people voted on election day there in the 2012 Democratic Primary.  About 3,660 voters cast non-blank Democratic ballots in those precincts in 2012.

Watch some Hawaii newscasts if you want:

Hawaii News Now (CBS/NBC)
KHON (Fox)
KITV (ABC)

I'm monitoring Hawaii News Now.  Vega is monitoring KITV.  So it would be nice if someone could monitor KHON2.

Getting someone on KHON would be fantastic.

The Schatz campaign is fired up it seems. This is going to be a very large first printout, larger in vote counts than in 2012. Ought to give us a good picture of the race.

10 Oahu polling places haven't closed yet.  All Neighbor Island polling places are closed.  We won't get any results until the precinct chairs from the 10 open precincts call in and say they are finished.

Edit: KHON2's website says we're down to 5 Oahu precincts open.
