Is Abrams campaigning for Barrow at all? She should be.

Yikes, this might end up as Chambliss vs. Martin 2.0.

The sad thing for John Barrow is that this is probably his last bite at the apple. He's already a pretty bad fit for the Georgia Democratic Party, and will soon enough (if not already) be a bad fit for Democratic hopes of winning in the general as well. He doesn't really appeal to enough Racist GA Hicks to claim the "electable" mantle when their main strategy is running up the score in the Atlanta metro now.

It would be hilarious if Barrow lost by more than Espy, but that’s probably not going to happen. Let’s not read too much into those numbers.

She's too busy sulking and claiming the election was stolen, ignoring the runoff that is totally vital to fixing the problem. Barrow is doomed as Democrats just aren't disciplined enough to actually voice their interests.

On the second day of early voting, 71,363 people voted (including returned mail ballots). The total early vote now stands at 116,753 voters.

This compares to 317,467 people who voted by the second day of the final week of early voting in the general election.

Including mail ballots that are unreturned, a total of 234,072 ballots have been cast or requested. That means 117,319 mail ballots have been issued but have yet to be returned.

I thought you would like John Barrow. He is a great guy. Not sure why an "Indy" is supporting Brad.

Honestly, I don't mind Barrow. I just have been really turned off by how sore of a loser many Abrams supporters have been after the election.

I mean that's fine (Abrams took too long to concede), but that shouldn't carry over to who you support for SoS. Barrow is considerably different from Stacey Abrams.

You're totally right about that. Without the fiasco that followed the election, I likely would have supported Barrow. But all of it has really turned me off from the GA Dems, not necessarily Barrow himself.

Why would it be surprising that a Republican is supporting a Republican? At least he voted against the pedophile. That's more than 91% of Alabama Republicans can say, lol.

yeah Indy split tickets more than anyone else here and its clear Abrams was acting like a sore loser so he may be salty about that just a bit. Yet atlas criticizes him because he doesn't vote straight D lol.

He's definitely more of an indy than the 45% of "independents" in Alabama that voted for the pedophile, lol.

On the third day of early voting, 76,196 people voted (including returned mail ballots). The total early vote now stands at 192,949 voters.

This compares to 474,960 people who voted by the third day of the final week of early voting in the general election.

Including mail ballots that are unreturned, a total of 316,196 ballots have been cast or requested. That means 123,247 mail ballots have been issued but have yet to be returned.

Race and gender numbers are slowly getting better for Democrats, but it's still way below where Democrats would want it to be.

Voted early today at one of the Forsyth County satellite locations.  The poll worker said turnout had been decent for a runoff.  There was no wait and 3 or 4 other voters present.  At the same place and time of day before the general election, I had about a 20-minute wait.

Precedent (and I don't mean the 2008 runoff, even though it does apply) suggests that runoffs usually draw out around half the usual crowd, which would suggest around 2,000,000 voters in this election. Smaller-scale runoffs and specific conditions can cause those numbers to fluctuate wildly, however (for example, our special Senate runoff in SD54 last year had 20% higher turnout than the special general).

However, after the unusually high turnout of this past midterm, I have no idea whether such a number is actually relevant. Lots of otherwise reliable voters I'm encountering still don't even know a runoff is occurring.

No. Early voting ends tomorrow.

Voted today. Nice sized line. Demographically it favored Democrats on the surface.

Is there any theories as to why black turnout historically tanks in GA runoff elections?

I'm afraid you're right.  She has had a great opportunity to learn from this experience, to build on it, and establish the Democratic Party in Georgia as a long term competitive force.  However, I suspect that she will play Harold Ford Jr. 2006--a great run, give up on the state, and take a position as an MSNBC panelist/NYT columnist.
