THIS IS NOT A F**KING TRIAL YOU F**KING F**KWITS

"beyond reasonable doubt" doesn't apply to whether or not a powerful man should get or keep a position of power

Under the Virginia Constitution, impeachment proceedings are in fact literally a trial.

God forbid we actually get some facts in this case. I’m inclined to believe the accusers, but since when does accusation warrant removal from office? There should be no investigation? Seriously, is it the Salem Witch Trials all over again? The left is losing its collective mind right now. Everyone is entitled to a fair and just investigation to accusations against them.

This kind of attitude amongst the left is exactly why I don’t think I’ll ever consider Trump as anything less than even-money for reelection.

Wow. He needs to resign immediately.

What if he says it was from 1984? Do you expect people to know the meaning of blackface and KKK costumes in a Old South of 1984 that still elected people like Helms, Thurmond and Lott?

Thurmond had already abandoned his segregationist positions by 1984. He voted to reauthorize the VRA in 1982 and voted to make MLK Day a federal holiday in 1983.

Basically the only prominent segregationists left in the Senate from the South by that point were Jesse Helms, John Porter East, and Jeremiah Denton. There were two segregationists from Idaho (McClure and Symms) in the Senate, too. Pretty much all the remaining segregationists in Congress abandoned those stances by 1980.

This is why we need an investigation! She has also accused another man of raping her.

Not a good sign for the second accuser's credibility.

Of course there needs to be an investigation, but saying that a woman is automatically lying about being raped because she threatened an ex-boyfriend is foolish.

Her prior rape allegation was a known fact on Day 1. Have you even been following the case at all? That was what made this so incredibly heinous because she said Fairfax's response directly relied on the prior incident: "I knew that because of what happened to you last year, you'd be too afraid to say anything." I find that a bit over-the-top but it doesn't take away from the claim.

Yes, an investigation is needed, but this should have absolutely nothing to do with it because all it does is discourage people from coming forward if details of their life are going to become public. It is reasonable to expect people who have experienced trauma are not going to react rationally every single second of their life - that's an absurd expectation for anyone.

Yeah if a quarter of women are raped, then a significant fraction of that are going to be raped by more than one person just statistically. An investigation is good but I wouldn't discount her claims just because she's claimed it more than once.

I basically agree with this, except I think Fairfax needs to resign and be impeached immediately if he won’t resign.

Oh hey, here comes the victim blaming! I knew something was missing in a thread discussing credible rape accusations against a powerful man.

Northam should consider himself lucky, he may very well get to keep his job even after turning himself into a living punchline. Fairfax...not so much. It's pretty ironic.

That would require the VA legislature to have, you know, a spine.

Northam will keep his job.

Perhaps after all of this, people will put events in better perspective.

Democrats expected to win both. Especially with the new un-gerrymandered House of Delegates map.

Precedent seems to have been set by Justin Fairfax due to the media losing interest. Thanks Jussie Smollett!
