If there's one tiny morsel I can take from this, its that Corbyn is doubtless finished and his entire way of thinking might be in trouble, which is something I didn't think possible.

Swinson is obviously curtains if the SNP really are at 55 but if the Lib Dems really do make such small gains she'd be done as leader anyway so losing her seat woudn't change much.

Let's see what happens but hoping for an innacurate exit poll is not known as winning strategy.

Also, can we be sure Corbynism is done in Labour? Certainly he is, but I was under the impression the left was the dominant force in the party at present. If that's where the passion is I'm not sure this election result will hurt them too much.

But I'm an amateur at all this, so please forgive me if I'm spouting nonsense.

What a disaster for Labour, but thankfully the electorate vanquished the problem in decisive fashion. Hopefully Corbyn will be swiftly ousted as leader and the equilibrium in British politics can be restored.

Brexit is certainly more likely now, but as the implications pile up I imagine more Tory dissenters will emerge. I doubt this'll be resolved soon.

I don't really think Labour deserved to do any better than this--I've been probably the maroon avatar most critical of them on the antisemitism issue--but this is obviously a terrible result for British working people, and seeing the most personally loathsome individual on the forum gloating about this is enough to make me hurl. I'm going out to celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe. I might be back for a hot-take postmortem later.

It was only a little dig :’(

I wasn't referring to you.

RIP Jeremy Corbyn. I wouldn't have voted for Tories, but Corbyn defeat his great news.
And the Lib Dems has 13 seats so Labour returning to New Labour won't happen.

Well, Blair did warn LAB that accepting an election would be a mistake

Depending on the popular vote margin, could this be further proof of Silvers rule of poll error-they miss in the opposite direction expected. So, a lot of people were looking out for a 2017 repeat which obviously didn't come to pass?

To be fair, the LibDems and SNP already backed the bill for an election, so there would have been an election regardless of Labour's position. Better for Labour then not to look like cowards.

Are there popular vote shares for the exit poll or is it just seat projections?

The exit poll says Bolsover is 'likely' to flip to the Tories.

At the very least the exit poll suggests a leftist, weak remainer like Corbyn a terrible fit for this election.

Not economically centrist enough to draw remainers over to their side, not on the right side of Brexit in the more fluid voting regions of the country.....didnt leave much room to win.

Tories will definitely govern for longer than they did under Thatcher and Major.

Yeah, well, that's, just, like, your opinion, man.

Don't think so, but Electoral Calculus thinks it is 41-27.

The conservatives built an electoral coalition of remainers and leavers?

I feel sorry for John McDonnell, who I actually have a fair bit of respect for, unlike most on the Labour left.

Hopefully Major, Heseltine, Grieve, Gauke, Stewart, Gyimah and the rest of the so-called “mainstream”, “One Nation” Tories can, in the words of Gavin Williamson, shut up and go away forever
