Sincere request for tonight: since California results will trickle in for days or weeks and the final results may be very different from tonight's returns, can we please avoid any hot takes based on tonight's returns?

Good luck with that. This is Atlas, after all.

BTW, I'm looking at CNN right now, they appear to have a countdown clock till 10pm est, so I guess we will have national coverage tonight. They also appear to be unhealthy hyping up the potential for lockouts, both DvD and RvR.

Probably going to watch the first dump of votes come into CA tonight and then go to bed. Makes no sense to stay up and fret about what happens tonight when millions of votes (that will probably lean Democratic/Left) are going to be counted over the next month.

It really is ridiculous/disgraceful that CA can’t count faster

Since the ballots can be received as late as Friday as long as they're postmarked by today, there's necessarily going to be some delay involved. Smiley

I wonder how much of it is to do with the fact they allow ballots to arrive three days after the election.

Allowing for greater ballot access and flexibility is more important than counting fast, imo.

I don’t disagree, but it shouldn’t take weeks

I support great ballot access and all, but there's no excuse for CA to take a month to count their ballots.

Since ballots have only 3 days to get there, you'd think the count could be 99% complete by this weekend, but as I recall from past cycles, it takes weeks to call close races.  I don't really get it.

A more succinct way of making my point

California's elections are bullsh!t. That is what happens when you have supermajorities all across the board, and really no one to keep you accountable.

Accountable for what? Trying to make sure everyone votes?

Precisely; not to mention that counties pay the post office for ballots that lack sufficient postage.

Would you rather we have a system like New York where everyone votes on election day?

Results pages are up!

Politico (Free): https://www.politico.com/election-results/2018/new-jersey/
NYT (Paywalled): https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/06/05/us/elections/results-alabama-primary-elections.html

As usual, links to the other states are clearly visible on these pages.

I went to one of the voting centers (Sac and 4 other counties are testing a new system) today. There was literally no one within two miles of the voting center. I saw 12 tumbleweed still by when I walked up to the door. Turnout will probably be in the negatives thanks to the moderate winds in Sacramento.

On a more serious note, I'm guessing it will take Sacramento and the four other counties longer to tally their votes unless they've already started tallying what they have now.

Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan, and Donald Trump made a joint decision to exclude you from the election. I believe it was for insufficent loyalty to the republican party.

Their terrible primary system that no one has seriously attempted to get rid of, it cheats voters out of representatives that fit their districts.
