What type of person voted for both Brown and Cooley? Makes little sense.

So-Cal moderates? Olds who remember Brown fondly but don't want to vote for a multi-ethnic, San Fransisco liberal woman?

So-Cal residents who remember Cooley's impressively successful run as DA of Los Angeles County?  Californians turned off by Harris' unimpressive and mismanaged Office?

It's always fun to read their statements on the voter information guide.

Cooley was a much better candidate than Whitman, having actually served in government.

If Harris wins the state is done for. The voters have proven themselves to be completely idiotic for voting for such incompetence in state government. I feel like we are now the Michigan of 2006. Cooley could always run for governor in 2014 if he loses I suppose since he has had an excellent record as a public official, and the state will be so far in the crapper by then that Republicans should come back strongly.

Why because I'm actually honest that Brown can't do sh**t to get the state out of the crapper?

Harris is up to about a 31,500 vote margin.

I wonder if Cooley will sue for a recount.

There is still about 700,000 votes to count after the liberal sinkhole of Alameda put Harris over the top.

Harris won even San Diego and there are still many votes from LA. Hard to see how Cooley wins.

http://vote.sos.ca.gov/maps/attorney-general/ Harris is no where close to beating Cooley in San Diego.

Where exactly are you from? I'm willing to bet it's a lot worse than Alameda County.

If you took Oakland out of the county, Alameda would be politically far more balanced. I'm from Orange County. It's not entirely much better having county offices basically has competitions between who can out do the other candidate on the conservative purity test.

I'm not even talking politics-wise. East Oakland is in general a truly horrible place to be.

Well that too. It's very sad how much the city has declined over the years. Hopefully it can be revitalized again. I know Jerry Brown tried revamping the city, but it hasn't been successful.

Local government can't do that sort of thing unless given the powers needed.

Even if you took Oakland out of the county, it would still be a reliably Democratic county. Remember that Berkeley is in Alameda County as well. Not to mention the "conservative" parts of the county voted for Obama by over 24 points and voted for Mcnerney by about 15 points. And that part of the county is better than most places in Orange County. I used to live there.

Alameda County minus Oakland would still be more Democratic than San Mateo and Sonoma Counties, FWIW (around 74% Obama). In other words, it would fall from second-most Democratic in California (behind San Francisco) to fourth-most (behind San Francisco, Marin and Santa Cruz). Doesn't sound politically balanced to me.

In fact, even if you remove everything cut off from the rest of the county by Oakland (Alameda, Piedmont, Berkeley, Emeryville and Albany), it's still more Democratic than Santa Clara, Mendocino and Los Angeles Counties, at just over 70% Obama.
