Is Bore referring to the power of the purse as the nuclear option? Or are we literally considering nuking San Francisco if DemPGH doesn't listen to us? Tongue

Yeah, it would basically be removing all funding for everything because a region didn't, say, ban smoking in doors.

As someone who wrote a paper on the Kennedy and Johnson tax cuts while studying economics, I'm happy to discuss the differences between our tax code then and now whenever necessary. It's all about context. If our top bracket was 90% now, goodbye economy.

Id be happy to be a guest lecturer in August. Until then, I must refrain. Bar preparations have taken over my life, you see. I'm amazed I can even post here after today.

I thought we wanted this to get done soon?

What is the total cost of this at present?

I'm honestly at a loss to calculate the expenses of the rest of the sections (with the services Schools will now offer). I'm not familiar with OTL American legislation in education, but does anybody know similar laws that we could use as a base to calculate the full cost?

I would like to request a simple explanation before declaring it friendly, why the change from the district education board to the principal?

If the amendment is declared friendly I'll object to it.

By giving the power to principals we make it far more likely that some nut orders a textbook that is in some way misleading or pushing an agenda or whatever. Ideally I'd leave the regional governments to draw up lists of all approved textbooks and then principals or education boards (it wouldn't really matter) would choose from them but education boards are closer to that than principals are.

I just think you're going to waste a lot of time going through education boards, frankly.

I echo bore's concern actually. Sometimes principals can be...special....and giving them that much power may not be a good idea.

Does that make sense to anyone else? I just am fearful that a rogue principal is a more likely occurrence than a rogue school board.

It makes sense to me, certainly. At the beginning I considered that reducing bureaucracy in this process might speed it up, but at the risks that Bore mentioned, which are too big to ignore.

I agree with my colleagues' perspectives on the amendment. While I understand TNF's concerns, I've seen (through my loving father) how some principals frankly aren't trustworthy when it comes to this sort of stuff.

Let's vote on this then. This bill has been on the floor for 2 months now, and I just want to pass part of my education reform before I leave office. I guess the rest of it will never make it to the floor. Sad
