This was a rough PR week for Renee Ellmers.

She went from this:

To this, a few days later:

She seems to have a way of making herself seem out of touch with her district like when she went to a shelter in Raleigh to volunteer after the tornadoes in 2011, instead of somewhere in her own storm ravaged Harnett county.

Ellmers has always been someone who just happened to luck out in 2010, then got redrawn so she can never be kicked out.

She represented much of Raleigh from 2011-2013.

Yes, but the damage in Harnett county was more extensive and it was seen as a slap in the face, and I am not talking about by run of the mill people but by GOP activists.

McIntyre raised $189K this quarter, a few bumps down from $236K last quarter. Rouzer was close behind, raising $182K.

Though we've mentioned him here before, State Rep. Alan Seabaugh is moving further in the direction of a Senate run. He doesn't seem very impressed with the current field:

If he does get in, Seabaugh would be the only candidate from the north; this would at least give him something of a cushion in a jungle primary.

My reaction: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31g0YE61PLQ

I wish I could say Perkins would make an R+19 seat in the Deep South competitive... but I highly doubt it.

If the race turns out to be competitive, I'll donate as much as I can to his Democrat challenger.  I don't care if he's only slightly different from Perkins issues-wise.

If he gets to the runoff, it's probably more likely he'll be running against anothor Republican. And I'll be volunteering for that other Republican!

Senator Landrieu has an op-ed on the shutdown. She calls out some Republicans from the delegation:

Smart if transparent ploy to wedge Cassidy between the base and those moderate business types who don't mind her, aimed more at the latter.

The Times-Picayune looks at Steve Scalise's position as Republican Study Committee Chair. They talk about his ongoing role in the shutdown debacle now as a conservative leader and his tenure in general.

Landrieu outraised Cassidy 2:1 this quarter. This brings her up to $5.8 million CoH while Cassidy is at $3.4 million.

Hagan will get a boost later this month, as Biden will fundraise with her in Durham.

LA-6: Sen. Claitor is out, Landry probably doesn't run, no idea about Chabert. At any rate, path seems fairly clear for Dietzel, if not quite CAVU.

Fixed the link.

Miles: So a 2-man race then, CAVU indeed. You did mention Santorum earlier but I guess that's just fundraising. Dietzel's running as an entrepreneur, and I don't get the impression the 6th is a primarily socon district.

I'm having trouble viewing that link.

I may not have gotten around to posting it here, but last month, Dietzel appeared with Santorum and said that he'd have Santorum back to help him in the future.

Senator Chabert would only probably run if multiple candidates from Baton Rouge got in. The Houma/Thibodeux area kinda got screwed in redistricting.

Congressman Coble keeps his perch at the top of the retirement watch list, as he only raised 44K this quarter.

Rep. Watt will likely be retiring whether he gets to head Freddy Mac/Fanny Mae or not. After raising only 3K in the second quarter, he's down to 10 dollars this quarter.

Watt considered retirement last cycle, so it would make sense for him to step down this cycle.

Coble's district is Lean/Likely R without him. Watt's is safe for any Democrat.
