Collins may flip if she realizes the effect on coverage is too great. Or some darkhorse like Daines or Lankford could torpedo it. It's not safe when every Senator is the deciding vote.

Why would a supposed moderate hero like Collins be in favor of destroying Obamacare? I thought the mandate repeal would totally turn her into a solid no vote.

Because she was promised that Alexander-Murray would also be voted on to counteract the effect of repealing the mandate.

Cornyn says Corker want MORE than $350 billion in higher taxes as "he's latched on to the" JCT score showing $1 trillion in red ink after growth.

Good luck...

Lol what a dumpster fire

Has there ever been a more incompetent majority leader than Mitch?

The problem here is that Alexander-Murray won't pass the house. IMO, Collins is just looking for political cover.

Lots of yelling on the senate floor.

Also, Rubio arguing for a 22% corporate tax but made a point to talk about how everyone before this bill said a 25% rate was the gold standard.

This is perhaps a stupid question, but what's the parliamentarian's logic behind nixing the trigger provision? Seems like it's pretty closely related to revenue items, no?

I'm trying to figure that out myself

Didn't find anything on the "why" (which is still fascinating to me tbh), but apparently they're looking at a sunset of some of the corporate taxes, which would really blunt any economic benefit.

I'd be a bit concerned about Ernst and Gillibrand, but they're about 30 years too old for him.

If this passes Democrats need to hike taxes on the rich as soon as they get in in 2021, and ideally hike top income tax rates above 50% to pre-Reagan levels. This can be done with an infrastructure reform bill, overhauling the tax code and destroying Trump's one accomplishment while actually delivering for working Americans and creating more jobs and rising incomes.

That could turn out disastrous politically unless you impose severe penalties for capital flight/offshoring along with it.

I fear for Tulsi and Stefanik.

They're at least in the House. Stefanik will probably never be a Senator. Gabbard might in a decade though.

Still practically grandmas in his eyes. Hopefully McConnell at least cancels bring your kid to work day until Moore is expelled.

Why did dinguses vote to reelect Johnson and Toomey? Oh yeah, Hillary said they were sane.

Not that I agree with the dumb tactic of courting deplorables, but the fact that Trump carried both states means they would've won regardless.

Yeah, I think they were telling the rest of the Democratic caucus to cut it out. Which seems fair; not sure what is being accomplished by all of the return-to-committee votes.
