Good Thursday Morning!  I am leaving for the doctor in 15 minutes at 0735.  I'm going to see if he can do anything for my back.  My back has been in moderate to severe pain for the past three weeks dating back to when I left for Africa.  If he can't do anything, he may be able to tell me what I can do to alleviate this pain.  The appointment is at 0820 so I should be out of there by 0930.  I'll go from there to Metro Tech where I will be going to school and talking to the counselor over the CAD program.  That appointment is at 1100, and should be out of there by 1145.  I should be home by 1230-1300.

Sounds like it's time for the OxyContin story arc to begin.

I'm home from the doctor and the meeting.  The doctor gave me a steroid shot that should clear things up and a prescription for muscle relaxers.  He told me to come back in two weeks from now if its still hurting.  He checked for a ruptured disc, but the way I was reacting to pressure points didn't indicate a disc, just a pulled muscle.  I had a good meeting with the CAD counselor.  I will go in on July 25 at Noon for an hour long orientation.  As I was about to leave the school, JC Penney called and I have an interview Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at 1500.

Congrats on the interview (though you should keep applying of course)! What position at JC Penny did you apply for? Like a sales assistant type thing?

You should anticipate and prepare for some likely interview questions. Why do you want to work here? Why are there so may holes in your employment history?  How much do you expect to be paid? How would you help an unhappy customer? Also, look snazzy for the interview. Shave the trash stache.

I'm definitely going to think of possible interview questions and answers over the weekend.  I may even ask the help of the forum in that regard, if I may?  I will look as good as I can.  My suit jacket is too small currently, so it may just be a dress shirt, dress slacks, and a tie.  And, yes, the mustache is leaving Monday.

The overtime is over, so he's back to a normal 9/80 schedule.

80 hours of work a week, spread out over 9 days?

That confused me too.

My dad used to have that sort of schedule. It looks like this, with the numbers representing hours worked each day:

MTWTF
Week 199998
Week 299990

It amounts to 80 hours every two weeks.

bushie you should definitely take the interview seriously and dress nice and all of that.

however most retail interviews center around one question:  availability!  dont talk yourself out of a job by demanding every sunday off.

By all means, Walter.  I am going to state my preference of having Sunday's off, but if it is the difference between having a job and not having a job, I'll relent because I know having a job now is the only way I'm moving to Kenya in 2015.  I'm keeping the bigger picture in mind.  I will emphasize that I'm available all day Saturday and Sundays after 1400, but I'm not going to harp on it.

No, I said I'll emphasize my availability all day Saturday and all Sunday afternoon and evening after 1400.  Sorry if its worded a little awkwardly.

Good Thursday Evening! I've had a pretty good day. That steroid shot seems to have helped a little bit. My back still hurts, but it seems to be a little more manageable right now. I'm going to take one of my muscle relaxers around 2230 and see if that will help some more. I'm about ready to get back on the heating pad, because the doctor's recommendation is to use the heating pad 3 times a day for 20-25 minutes each time. I am going to try to stay up until midnight. I have nowhere to go tomorrow until possible Bible Study at 1830. I'll find out in the morning if Bible Study is still in the plans. My schedule is pretty light the rest of the week until Sunday School and Worship on Sunday at Eastwood Baptist Church.

I find you repulsive because nearly all the things you do, you do to glorify yourself. The african kids, the dog, etc, are all about you. You sin over and over, scam people, lie, steal and mistreat yourself and others to make yourself feel better, yet you think it's all okay because you pray to god for forgiveness and you think he will forgive.

You have African orphans call you daddy, because your grandma sends them money every month, knowing full and well you will never adopt them, which will only lead to the kids growing up confused and ultimately hurt. You steal money from your parents all the time for frivolous things like porn, trips out to eat, hotel stays, etc.

You refuse to work while living the comfortable lifestyle you wish to have off the backs of your parents, because working seems to be beneath you. You have your poor father do everything while you nap all afternoon every day and seem to be unashamed of it. In addition to that, you are morbidly obese, yet you go to McDonalds nearly every day (that seems to be the only thing you can do on your own), and refuse, despite all the technology at your fingertips, to educate yourself on proper diet that would benefit you and your sick mother, because, well, it wouldn't be about you anymore, and that's not about to happen.

A dog was abandoned on your property, and instead of trying to find it a home, you keep it because you want a dog to call you daddy, knowing full and well you intend to leave it behind in a year, like you left your cat before it, not considering the feelings of these animals that do become attached to their human owners. They love us like we love them. Not only that, the dog lives outdoors in the Oklahoma heat and you only go out to see it once in a while. Oh, and it took you weeks to figure out what sex it was. Sorry, I also don't care about what dogs and humans did in the old days. This isn't the stone ages.

Finally, you claim to be a Christian and a follower of Jesus, yet you only follow the parts of the Bible that suit you while ignoring all the other parts you don't agree with, like treating your body well, working honestly, loving your neighbors, etc. But you think it's all okay because you will be forgiven despite the fact you embody nearly all of the seven deadly sins.

The honest truth is, I have never come across a bigger hypocrite than you, Bushie, and I hate to say that because I used to think you had your heart in the right place. I used to want to see you succeed, but it's difficult to want that anymore because you yourself have no interest in succeeding. You only wish to glorify yourself in your own mind and stroke that sense of importance that we can all feel in your words.

I don't mean to come across as harsh, but that is the honest truth. You've become a monster, and I know I'm not the only one that feels this way, and I don't like feeling this way either.

Now if I said this (and I have before), Xahar and Co. would be out calling me a meanie. Tongue

Duke, thank you for being honest and candid.  I know it does come across sometimes that I am proud and arrogant, and, yes, I do struggle with that, I've struggled with that for years long before I joined the forum.  I am getting better, or at least, I think I am.  What I do know is God is working on me with regards to my pride.

Bushie. I think one thing that could help you a lot with your pride is to lock this thread and never open another update. Posting the mundane details of your life on the internet for others to read is a bit like high-fiving yourself in the mirror repeatedly. Such a practice will only lead you to a sense of self-importance and narcissism. It will only make you think about yourself, which can be a good thing if it's done in a sincere examination-of-conscience sort of way, but that's not what this thread is. Also, I'd suggest The Imitation of Christ by Thomas a Kempis (you can find it free on the internet) as a good book to read to direct one's actions away from self-gratification and toward gratification of God.

I'm going to be real candid and real honest here for a bit:

You bring up a good point and I realize the entire premise of the Update thread itself is a source of arrogance.  I admit that.  I would lock it, because I think it would be healthier for everyone involved and I am trying to wean myself from it (if you believe that, I can sell you the Brooklyn Bridge), but I haven't locked because I don't have the discipline to never raise the Update again.  If I locked it, what, short of a moderator order, is to stop me from opening Season 9.

Jeff, if you post in here that you want the Update locked, because I still care about you and want to see you better your life, I'll help you out and be the discipline that you don't have.  But don't ask for the favor lightly; if you ask for it, I'll honor your request, but there's no revoking that (otherwise there'd be little point to me making this offer).

Some potential questions:

1. Why do you want to work here? This'll almost surely be asked.
2. Thinking of a time that you were doing some sort of service, whether in a volunteer position or at a job, name a time that you went above and beyond your normal duties and how you went about it.
3. Name a time that you were at a retail store and you had a negative experience.  What could the staff and management done better to rectify and/or avoid the situation?
4. When you are working in a group setting, whether in school or at another job, what role do you normally take in the group?

Be prepared for some ice breaker questions: What's your favorite food? What's your favorite word? What's your favorite restaurant? What's your favorite season?  Employers use these to get you to start talking and to see how you interact with someone asking questions.
